hi everyone!
a pretty simple question i think, but i can't find a definitive answer.
i have a movie .vob file that i'd like to burn to a dvd that can be played on a set-top dvd player.
i have Toast 8 and mac os x 10.4.11

do i select: Video > DVD-Video > Burn?

i'm trying not to waste too many more DVDs on mistakes
thank you!

Toast doesn't like videos in VOB. If the VOB is in a VIDEO_TS folder then it is easy for Toast to extract it as a .mpg file. If not I suggest using MPEG Streamclip to convert it to .mpeg.

If it is in a VIDEO_TS folder you have two choices. One is to use the VIDEO_TS folder setting in the Toast Video window and burn the DVD. The other is to place the VIDEO_TS folder on the Desktop and choose DVD with the Toast Media Browser. There you'll see the video which you then drag to the main Toast window with DVD video selected as the format. Toast extracts the .mpg file. Now set up the menu the way you want and proceed to burn your DVD. If Toast reports it is encoding rather than multiplexing the video you can click cancel and go to the Toast custom encoder settings window and choose Never re-encode. After doing that Toast should multiplex the video before burning the DVD.

You can try adding the VOB directly to the Toast Video window with DVD-video selected as the format. It my work out for you. But Toast often has problems with VOBs.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

it's not in a VIDEO_TS folder so i'm trying putting the VOB in the Toast Video window with DVD-video chosen. so far it's an extremely slow process encoding. we'll see if it works. thank u for the info!
