Try using the Microsoft Cleanup Utility to get rid of all Roxio and Sonic files on your computer, reboot, then try to reinstall.

Okay it's a year and a half later, but I'm having the same exact problem!
I've run emc7 before in the past with no problem, but now -- after many months of non-use -- I am getting this same error msg and am unable to run anything. I tried the Cleanup Utility mentioned here, but that didn't do anything either. Is an installed Microsoft "fix" (updates) the cause?? I don't know. All I know is I need to copy a cd and now I can't do anything.

Look to see if you let Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and WMP 11 get on your computer. If so, roll back to IE 6 and WMP 10 or 9.
After you dump them, do a clean install:
http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000086CR
Things have drastically changed with Microsoft updates, since the posts in the 1-1/2 + year old thread you dug up. A good reason not to tack on to an oldie.

I have the same problem here. I only discovered it a couple of months ago, after using it fine for about a year. One day, it simply would not start. same hopepageapp.exe problem that a few have mentioned here.
To make things worse, I can't find my original CD. Even if I do find it, does a reinstall fix the problem, or is it caused by a recent Windows update ?
Thanks

Being as you can,t re-install (no CD) , try the other option (see if you let Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and WMP 11 get on your computer. If so, roll back to IE 6 and WMP 10 or 9).

That's the problem with hit and run posters, which there are a couple in this thread. They don't come back to let folks know if the suggestions have fixed their problem.
Have you tried the suggestions?

I tried rolling back to WMP10. Roxio sent me instructions for a problem about mediahub.exe ???
they suggest the rollback to WMP10. It did not solve the problem.
My problem is even if I do locate my original CD, will reinstall work ?. From other posts, some users say reinstall did not solve the problem.
I guess i'll have to try rolling back to IE 6.
can someone confirm this has worked for them ?
thanks

You have to dump IE 7, or it just isn't going to work. I hope that you find the CD's, because you may have to reinstall or do a repair, after you dump it.
It did work for me, when I was doing a test, a number of months ago.

I found the original CD. Reinstalled, twice. No go.
Roxio suggested a patch bo_hotfix.exe. Didn't do a thing.
I'm starting to believe that their help ticket system is so automated that some suggestions they reply don't apply at all to your problem. Anyway, the patch was nothing but air.
If IE 6 is the only solution, I can't understand they don't mention it.
IE 6, here we go

One may not know about this forum before one has a problem of this nature. But still, I don't understand why Roxio don't mention it now . Anyway, I rolled back to WMP10, ran a patch from Roxio that was hot air, then rolled back to IE6, did a clean install of V7 as per instructions found here.
Now nothing works at all, not even Capture when started by itself. So I went from having a almost useless program to a totally useless program. When homepageapp.exe is attempted, the opening window is half blanked, hangs, with a window title bar : ''StringRef:MainFrameTitle''
On Roxio's site, I found an upgrade to V7.12, downloaded that ( 100 + MB ). During installation attempt, it stops with a ''2705 : Directory error''.
By now, I'm totally at loss.
Roxio is offering Creator 9 download for 49 $. Maybe that is simpler. But , beat's me why, I'm a little gun shy.
Thanks

Follow the instructions in the clean install pinned post. I don't have time right now to locate it for you, but if you haven't found it, I will be back in a couple of hours or so and link you to it.

I followed to the letter the instructions for the clean install.
Went through the whole process twice.
At startup, Drag to Disk loads and seems to start just fine, but I still can not start hopepageapp.exe.
None of the programs will start ( except for Drag to Disk )
IE6 SP2, WMP10
WMP 9 ?
I filled out two help tickets on Roxio's site, but no reply as yet.
Thanks
Guy Brosseau
