I just bought an ASUS G74S 3D laptop.  The 3D previews that came with work fine, but when I play a 3D blu ray I get 2D, even though the player says it is 3D.  I have not messed with any settings.  Any ideas?

First what Roxio software are you talking about?

A full bought Retail Version?

Or a free version that came with the ASUS G74S 3D laptop?

It was the "free" version that came with the laptop.

Contact Asus to see if that version will play 3D blu-ray; not all do.   Also the DRM protection on blu-ray discs is constantly changing.  You may need an update/upgrade to get those blu-ray discs to run.  Which ones are they?

Are those 3D previews on your computer or on a blu-ray disc?

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

PC  Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Velocity Micro ProMagix ©HD 60; evga x58 motherboard, Intel i7 @2.93, 12G RAM, EVGA Nvidia 560TI superclocked video card, SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme audio card, Buffalo external blu-ray burner; Creator 2012. PhotoShow 6, VHS to DVD 3Plus.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

Apple =OSX 10.5
MacBook Pro; 15.4-inch widescreen display, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 200GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 memory.  ILife 08, Toast 10, Final Cut Express 4 and Photoshop 4.

the movie disk is IMAX Hubble

No, the previews are game previews on the hard drive.

Here is blurb from the ASUS website about this laptop:

True-to-life 3D Video & Audio
with Creative EAX Advance HD 5.0 detects environments and actions to provide 3D corresponding sound effects THX TruStudio applies optimized audio scenarios to make games, music and movies sound more realistic

The G74SX is great for gaming, but its hardware is serious business. It offers the best 3D ecosystem for PCs, offering 3D content creation and editing. It’s powered with NVIDIA® 3D Vision™, so games, photos and movies are all able to be enjoyed like never before. There’s also the ability to output the G74SX to a 3D TV, so you can enjoy 3D entertainment from the living room. Pair that up with THX + EAX 5.0 3D gaming audio technology, and together they make the G74 not only a great gaming notebook, but also a hub for multimedia entertainment.

You still need a software player to use with the Asus hardware.

That is a question you have to ask Asus about the Laptop and does the Roxio free software do what you want it to do?

Also not all TVs will play the 3D blu-ray.   Just how it is.  Are you getting any error messages?

The Roxio player software came pre-installed, I did not download it.

I am not trying to play the movie on a TV, just with the laptop screen.  The laptop has built in support for nVIDIA 3d Vision.

Your video chip has "support for nVIDIA 3d Vision" so what!

Are you going to call Asus?

"I am not trying to play the movie on a TV, just with the laptop screen"- And what does that means?
Maybe You mean play on laptop but using the TV instead of it's monitor ?

Tyuomini,  Whay are you digging up a 4 month old thread if you have nothing valuable to add?  Are things a little slow there in this part of WQinter?  What is the temperature and how much snow is on the ground?

I'm sure that trhe OP has contacted Asus and gotten his answer.  Do you know anything about this issue?  Unless the OP has the 3D vision glasses, 3D emitter and if the laptop screen is 3D compliant, it won't work.   Also not all blu-ray 3D can be played because of DRM protection.

Please respond or you may be lifted to a different level of posting ability.Posted Image
