Trying to convert old cassettes into itunes.  goes well till i look for them in the itunes library.  they are in a music directory instead. How can I get them into itunes playlist?  thanks

iTunes builds a library from the files on your computer just like all other players.
Thing is it has to be looking in the right place for the tracks.
By default I think it only looks in the iTunes folder.

You can go to File,Add Folder to Library,highlight the folder where you saved your tracks and hit Select Folder and it should add your tracks to the Library.
