Emc 8.5 Patch Install Failure "Windows Installer could not be accessed"

I successfully downloaded the EMC 8.5 patch, but when I try to install it, I get the error message "Windows Installer could not be accessed." I don't have trouble installing any other programs, so what gives? I am running Windows XP, Professional Edition, with all of the current updates.
