I've followed all on-line guides/recommendations from Roxio Support including:
>> making sure Roxio Video Capture USB is recognized
>> checking all compatibility requirements (e.g. USB2)
>> checking for software updates.
>> installed Roxio C2009USBCaptureDriver
>> testing with new VHS and cassette
>> uninstalled and reinstalled with Video Capture USB plugged in first
>> yes... cables are plugged in correctly.
The Roxio Capture USB is recognized as well as USB 2861 Device... but there is no transfer of audio for 'Sound Editor' nor audio/video in 'Roxie Easy VHS to DVD'. Are there any other plugs/upgrades that might fix this? It's installed on a Dell Inspiron 1520 (yes it meets specifications) Thanks to anyone that can help!

Like to know your Version or Build of V2D?

What is your OS?

If you look in Device Manager, you must see this!

Before & After Win7.jpg

And if Vista/Win7 you have to have the device set as the 'Recording Device':

And check the Mixer:

Thanks for the help Jim!  Everything you recommended checked out.  The VHS to DVD software is Build 201B23AENU...bought last Feb. The delay in installing was because I had problems updating Vista Home Premium.  The OS was 'recovered' and 'cleaned' prior to attempting a new load.  Iolo System Mechanic also checked for outdated drivers and came back positive. Thanks again for the help,  Bert

Everything looks good....tell us HOW you have got your VHS/Cassette hooked up, try to provide as much details as you can.

Remember we can't see the cables and were they are plugged into. Make and Model number of the 2 units being used would be helpful.

The cassette only has 'audio in' and 'audio out'... so have the standard white-red cable that are about 24" long going to the 'audio out'.  I'm not using the receiver.  The VHS is the same.  There's no S-Video on this VHS, so we're using the red-white audio and the yellow video.  Again, a short cable.  We have a couple more VHSs around, so might see if we have one with an S-Video cable.

Base on your original recommendations, the 'volume mixer' shows up but doesn't show that any data (music) is coming through... nothing to turn up or down.

With the USB Device plugged in, right click your Speaker in the SysTray and select Recording devices:

It must be set in there as shown above. (Windows changed that starting in Vista ;) )

Looks the same except under 'line 2-USB 2861 devise' it says 'working'... not 'default devise'.  The 'set default' button is not enabled. This makes sense.  I can record via the laptop's microphone but not the Easy VHS to DVD cables.

You may want to try Disabling the laptop mic then set the Roxio device to Default???

I disabled the mic and did not have the option of making it (video capture cables) the default recorder.  I tried the same with a re-boot.. with no luck.  Presently there is no default recorder established.  The USB 2861 devise driver is a generic one from Microsoft.  Should it be replaced by a Roxio-specific driver (just a thought)?

YES!

Plug in the Device, and delete both entries in the Device Manager then remove the device.

Reboot, then start to install the software only choose the Repair option.

The device should never be introduced until the install of the software (proper drivers!) is complete.

Give it a try ;)

No luck again.  I had already tried reinstallations prior-to and after the device was plugged in (after deleting the drivers).  My guide said to plug the video capture USB in after installing the software and the on-line guide said to plug the device in first. The VHS to DVD software still says there is no video signal and there's no audio signal when using the 'Sound Editor' software.  I can record via the webcam and PC mic, however... so the software works.  It's funny how it recognizes the video capture USB device but the unit does not bring the signal across.  Are you starting to think we have a hardware issue?  Hope not.  We reserved this job for blizzard-days and it's been 10 months since the purchase.  I doubt it's returnable at Walmart.  Thanks for your persistance!!

Did you actually follow the specific steps I outlined or just dismiss them because you think you already did them?

And what happens when you Disable both the Web Cam and Mic in Device Manager?

Good morning Jim.  I followed your instructions exactly (previous correspondence). I had not diabled the web cam however.  Sooo, disabled both the webcam and mic.. then rebooted.  When attempting to record in sound editor, the Roxio Video Capture USB device was the only option... but still no signal.  The Easy VHS to DVD software would not start.  I got the error messag "the sound device of your computer is not functioning properly.  Please check speakers.....".

By the way, Roxio tech got back with me and asked that I uninstall the software and reinstall under a newly created user name with administrative rights. Same results.

PS: Even though the video Capture USB is the only recording device listed now, I still don't have the option of making it the default.  It still says that it's working, however.

Huh?

It's right there, right now, look at the top right corner! (this is a Roxio site thing, not email)

Dear Jim,
Thank you for your excellent diagnosis and assistance.  Also, we appreciate your effort to show Roxio IT that we likely had a hardware issue. They stopped passing us around to different technicians and reimbursed us.  You're a good hand!
