Creating Clips From Video_Ts Files

I'm just getting started with Roxio Video Lab. I have a bunch of DVD's of my sons basketball games and I'm trying to figure out how to clip highlights so I can create a highlight DVD. I copied one of the DVDs to my desktop to work with and it's in a Video_TS file. Where do I begin? Thanks Rob

Your program is a limited version of a full retail suite and as such has several programs of the full version crippled or missing. It should still have a version of Videowave. It may be called Edit video-advanced or something similar. You would use that to edit out the sections you want. Lets first see if you have that program.

It has edit video advanced but when I try to start using it with the Video_TS file it opens in a very thin wavie file. You can hear the audio fine? I was thinking that I may have to convert the Video_ts file to another format. Or should I be using the actual disc instead of the copy I transfered to my hard drive?

Assuming you copied the entire VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to your HDD, select:
Add:
Import 1.jpg 142.16K
2 downloads
Pick any file in the VOB:
Import 2.jpg 103.62K
0 downloads
Chose the one you want:
Import 3.jpg 156.58K
0 downloads
Edit:
Import 4.jpg 166.57K
0 downloads
Try it this way and let us know what you get

I can get that far but when I get to your last slide the DVD plays but it is in a compressed thin sliver on the screen. You can hear the audio fine but the picture is compressed in the middle of the screen.

Try it there, after removing the disc!
Als... With Windows Explorer, click on the VOB files in that VIDEO_TS Folder and see what you can find out about them:

No, there should be no need to convert to anything else if it is a correctly created Video_TS folder.
Could you do a screenshot of the contents of the Video_TS folder like Jim did in his post? If not list the full file names in the folder.
Do you have the same problem with other video files?

Where did these discs come from?
Let's try one 'easy' approach... They appear to be shot in widescreen (16:9)and your project appears to be a 4:3...
Start a New Project and make sure you choose 16:9:
WideScreen 1.jpg 125.04K
0 downloads
Import the file.
Aspect Ratio 1.jpg 249.26K
0 downloadsLook at the Source as well as the Project settings. Try changing the Size:
Aspect Ratio 2.jpg 249.1K
0 downloads[/indent]IF that does not help, we will have to turn to a 3rd party converter... I have one I want to test out today and see if it can import from disc

0 downloadsWhen you convert, you want to keep the settings as close to original as you can. Same for final Output.
You can't "upconvert" (nor can BD Players ~ but that is 'pet peeve') with much success
