Hey all,
I've been trying to get some labeling software to recognize my CD/DVD drive so I can burn some labels. I've tried using Easy Media Creator 8's labeling program, as well as the free download of SureThing 4 SE from www.lightscribe.com. Easy Media doesn't give me the option to select a lightscribe enabled drive, and SureThing gives me a message that there's no lightscribe drives on my system.
I have an e-Machines T5026 system, and the CD/DVD drive is made by NEC, model # ND-3520AW. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, both in regular and safe mode, I've flashed the drive's firmware to the newest version, and downloaded the Lightscribe System Software Update from http://www.lightscri...dex.aspx?id=305
Alas, nothing seems to be working for me. Any thoughts or ideas?
Much appreciated.

Forgive me if I missed something but are you sure that that drive is lightscribe enabled? Look on the faceplate, there should be the lightscribe logo. I looked at the NEC site and the manuals and could not find that it is lightscribe enabled.

Sknis,
Thanks for the reply. That is one thing that I've been considering. The box the computer came in (a packaged system, not custom/home built) had the lightscribe logo on it, and the faceplate on the drive has been replaced with one that matches the front of the case. And e-Machines tech support can't give me a straight answer about whether or not this model came with a lightscribe drive.
Hypothetically, if the optical drive I had WAS a lightscribe capable drive, would I have to install a specific driver or enable a specific setting somewhere?

I have put in an internal lightscribe drive and have an external one. As long as you have installed the drivers, it should be recognized. No specific settings; if neither Roxio nor SureThing thiks it is lightscribe and it is a NEC who does not license lightscribe technology, I'm afraid that's three strikes against you.
If you want a fourth, go to page 33 (or 39) of your manual and it will show that e-machines do not come with lightscribe burners unless it is a special add on. If e-machines can't help you when you give them model and serial number .. perhaps they just don't want to answer.
Maybe someone else has some ideas. You might consider getting and external lightscribe enabled burner or an Epson pronter that paints on the CD/DVD.
