Hi everyone,

I just bought a new computer that had Roxio Creator Starter, and CinePlayer 5.8 BD pre-installed on it.

While trying to launch a new blu-ray ( in this case Hancock) the following message appeared:

"This BD-J title does not support pointing devices, such as mouse> Please click on '<' below to access Blu-Ray disc control"

I can hear the music from the disk, but absolutely no image.

I tried to see if it would work by unplugging the mouse, but no success. Of course it would be even simpler if there WAS a '<' button I could click. Is there any way to play this blu ray on a computer ?

For info I have a i7 2670QM at 2.2 Ghz with a Geforce GTX 560M

I see no reaction. I've tried other Blurays but the result is the same. Black screen with background music.

Does a standard definition DVD display the black screen with background music?

Mmmmh it doesn't. Classic dvds seem to work. Forgot to say, I had already played a bluray disk without a hitch, but I had the software AnyDVD at the time.

That software breaks the encryption and doing that is illegal in most parts of this world!

No talk of it is allowed on the Roxio site, understand?

Try and see if your PC manufacturer has a update for your pre-installed CinePlayer 5.8 BD?

I'm downloading one right now. The computer I have was bought in the US, but the blurays I'm trying to read are not, could this be the reason for my difficulties ?

Go into device manager, expand DVD/CD Rom Drives, right click the Blu-ray drive and click properties, click the DVD Region Tab. What does it say? What region are the disc's your trying to play?

You can change the region for your drive but there is a limited amount of changes and the drive is a dead horse (4)!

And nope. For a moment I had hope because no region was selected, but changing it into the correct one has had no effect.

Ok I just downloaded the trial version of another software, and it seems to work. So I guess it could be a lack of compatibility between my computer and this specific roxio software. I don't understand why I could play one of them before though...

It would appear that you have a Dell OEM software (it came pre-installed). Dell's OEM versions are made to Dell's specs (they are cut-back versions of the full Roxio version) and Dell  provide all the support for them. Maybe they have had other reports of problems like yours, give them a call.
