Could you please post the complete name of the program suite you are using?
This is the forum for Roxio Creator 2011 (or C2011). You state you are using myDVD 10. That is propably one of the programs within a full suite (easy Media Creator 10 perhaps).

What I did encounter is that the same DVD would not play in my dad's DVD player. That's when I realized that I had burned a DMSD file extension, and my dad's DVD player requires an SVCD, and perhaps a differenct DVD type. So I have been attempting to figure out how to convert my project into a recognizable format, DMSD to SVCD ever since.
If I were to purchase an upgrade to 12 for $69, would I be able to make this conversion? Or would I have to start all over? I've put together a show with over 1100 pictures (which I successfully converted from slides in a very short time with an inexpensive slide converter).
Thanks for reposting in the proper forum. I was using the general search box, on DMSD, and jumped in.

Does that disc not play on your Dad's DVD Player?
DMSD file extension, is a list of instructions for making the DVD and contains no video at all.
If you Dad has a DVD Player it should play a DVD you make or there is other problems. No need to down convert to SVCD!

The folders and files on the disc are:

VIDEO_TS.BUP 0kb
VIDEO_TS.IFO 0kb
VTS_01_0.BUP 0kb

And again the DVD works for our DVD/TV but not for my dad's DVD/TV. The DVD menu says Loading when the DVD is inserted, but after loading it says Disc Cannot be Read. His store-bought movies work fine. Some previous slideshows that I created for him work, and some don't. I have the ones that don't work at my house. They appear to be a mixed bag of DVD-R, DVD+R, Maxell, Verbatim, VCD, SVCD.

Is your windows operating system burn program! How did that get on a disc you burned with Roxio?
DVD is DVD. VCD and SVCD is a video burned to a CD that some settop DVD players can play.
Does your Dad's DVD Player say it plays VCD and SVCD?

Files on the DVD cannot be 0kb - if that is what Windows Explorer shows, then the DVD is corrupt.
Maxel are among the worst quality, try to stick with Verbatims. Avoid "no brands" like the plague.
VCD and SVCD are only CD discs and not DVD discs. Many DVD players cannot play these CDs. VCD and SVCD are "dead" formats and no DVD player requires these types of Cds

I asked myself the same question. Perhaps that is one of the incompatibility issues?
Yes, the instruction manual says it plays VCD, SVCD, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc. When I use MyDVD, Burn, is one format better than another?
If I open MyDVD, and select File/New Project/DVD, at this point, can I import my old .DSMD project? Or vice-versa, if I have my old .DSMD project open in MyDVD, can I then save it as a new file and project with a new type such as DVD? How?

Totally forget VCD and SVCD - they are history and never used very much except in Japan.
The format for a video DVD is standard - you have no choice. You can select the quality though and you should select the "Best Quality" (HQ) setting. You should also realize that a standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at this setting. Any longer in time and the video has to be compressed and you lose quality. Never use the "Fit-to-disc" setting as it gives the worst possible quality.
You cannot import and old dmsd project using File/New project. The "New" implies a totally new project
If your current myDVD project is a SVCD project then you cannot save it as a DVD project. You will have to start the whole DVD project from scratch.

I will forget VCD and SVCD. I am not sure what I used, and don't know how to tell at this point. I think I chose DVD. Obviously since the project plays fine on my DVD player/TV, the files can't have 0kb in the files, but that is what Windows Explorer is indicating. I'm not sure whether it's the DVDs or the incompatibility issue. We use the same DVDs to record TV shows from our computer, and they work. Anyway, I went out and bought new DVD-Rs.
I'll start the project over. Will Easy Media Creator 10 work with Win 7 when I attempt the following and which program would you suggest I start with from Easy Media Creator 10 to do the following:
The output desired is a DVD to play on my dad's DVD player which is compatible with DVD-RW/R DVDs.I believe I read in the other forum a recommendation to begin creating in VideoWave. Would this same advice apply to 10? However, transitions, sound, effects are not important to my dad. What is important is that he can view his photos on the TV and use his remote control to advance from photo to photo, much like a slide projector. He would like to spend as much time as he wants viewing each photo but would also like to have the option to start a "slideshow" and have it automatically advance to the next photo, spending a couple seconds on each photo. A menu is a requirement too so that the photos can't be grouped, and he can easily find the group of photos that he's interested in ie. airforce, wedding, etc.
The project I created is exactly what he wants, it just doesn't run on his DVD Player, and I used MyDVD, but if there's a better way, I'll try it. I would like to avoid upgrading to 12 if possible. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you mentioned that before. It doesn't seem like I bought the software that long ago, but I must have. I upgraded to Win 7 in 2009. I really don't want to spend $69 right now to upgrade if I don't have to. Much of 10 must be compatible since the DVD I created for my DVD player/TV works fine. Do you know what's not compatible with Win 7?
Anybody else care to comment?

EMC 10 is not compatible with Windows 7. It may seem to work but will eventually fail.
With regards to the slideshow, you cannot create one as you described using EMC 10. Basically when you create a slideshow in Roxio you create a movie and that will run from beginning to end. There is no capability to have a next and/or previous option. The best you can do is use the pause button on the remote.
If your DVD player is capable of showing jpg images then you could simply create a data disc by copying the photos to a DVD. You could arrange the images in folders and then use your remote to navigate through the folders. You can also use the next/previous buttons for such a slideshow. Many DVD players also allow you to run a slideshow from the photo images stored on the DVD. To do this you do not really need any Roxio program.

OK.
Within EMC 10, there is a program called MyDVD. Under Edit/Change Menu Style/Select Menu Style, there are options to use your remote control for next/previous/play/ETC. I happened to choose "Projector". MyDVD generates what I'm looking for and works fine on my DVD player/TV. Are you unfamiliar with this program? It's pretty cool.
