I have used those transition types and they work fine. I used the 2 by 2 side by side for a slide show at my son's wedding - no music.
Remember that if you use the slide show assistant (which is where those transitions are) you are making a video at standard definition. It will not be as clear as playing a jpeg image disc. Most newer DVD players will play a picture disc. Look at your manual.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
