(Sorry if this has already been addressed -- couldn't find it by searching)

Following a hard disk failure, I have had to rebuild the system (Windows XP Sp3) on my desktop (Dell Dimension 3100).  I installed the EZ CD DVD software, but I am unable to activate it -- error message says:

The activation server is currently unreachable.  Please try again at a later time.

I am able to use the software for now, but it will auto-disable after 14 days.  This old version was working fine for me until the disk crash.  Is there any way to activate it so that it will work again?

Thanks,

-- Bob

Is it a downloaded version or a boxed version with a installation disc?

It's a downloaded version, for which I have a CD key.

Thanks.

I fear you might be SOL there. :(

There was a time way back when some of the software being sold had to be activated on line.
I believe the activation servers were taken off line after many years as part of the periodic austerity measure sweeps the company was doing. Something about 'wasting money on software that is years past its support window."

I guess you're talking about Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 since you're posting here. Is the whole suite refusing to activate, or just some codecs?

Yes, it is EZ CD DVD Creator 6.  The whole suite is refusing to activate.

I'm sorry, I don't think I can help.

The boxed version of 6 doesn't need activation - I just installed and checked it. It must be just the download version that needs activation.

Since yours is a different version from mine I can't work out how it activates. I do have a couple of ideas, but I'd rather discuss them in email.

Would you please send me a private message [PM] by clicking on the envelope under my picture at the side of this message, and tell me an email address where I can reach you?

Regards,
Brendon

I am still hoping that a decent soul at Roxio will feel an ounce of responsibility and professionalism, and help me (and others who paid for the software but can no longer use it).

Remember that you are posting to a users web forum and not Roxio Tech Support.   There are only a few Roxio people who post here and that is on an irregular basis.  Contact Roxio direct via live chat.

Are you expecting Roxio to activate a long dead activation server?

Thanks.  I will try Roxio on live chat.

Of course I don't expect Roxio to activate a long dead activation server.  I expect a smart solution from the bright people who work there -- an escape hatch in the old software, a patch to the executable, ...  I bought the software legally, I have the proof of purchase, and I am entitled to continue using it.

It is at least a 10 year old piece of software.  You may want to consider upgrading for the extras.   I see it listed on e-bay  and Amzaon for arounf $10 or less; It is probably the "boxed" version that Brendon says that does not require activation.

Good luck in making your decision. Posted Image

Cd pointed out that I had omitted the "not" regarding activation, Thanks CD

Hello all!
I have almost the exact same problem with two exceptions;
1) My version is a boxed, bought at the store version
2) The only part needing activation is MPEG-2 for dvd authoring

Any suggestions?
