I've tried creating 9 different movies for my Playbook (in mp4), from DVDs. Each one results in a Media Error when I play it back on the Playbook after 90-95% of the movie has played. I have also tried a shareware program I found which creates mp4 from DVD and those copies all play fine on the Playbook. Why would Roxio's copies not work on the Playbook when the "cheapies" all work fine?

In Roxio I just select the movie (unprotected DVD files on my computer) for the input and then select Playbook (default settings) for the output.

Please ignore beiker, he has yet to post anything of any use

As far as your problem, you have provided no details beyond 'don't work'...

We don't even know which one of the 40 some programs in the Suite you are using, nor what settings

I will guess it is Video Copy and Convert???

Try a short clip (trim if needed) and look at the settings:

Attached File  Image1.jpg   126.7K   0 downloads

Now try one but change the resolution to 640 X 480

Attached File  Image2.jpg   132.03K   0 downloads

Let us know how that works ;)

I had titled my post "Creator 2012 Pro Convert" because I thought that identified which function I was using. I wasn't aware there were other functions in the suite that would covert from one format to another.

I also said that the settings I used were the default settings (exactly as in your first screen capture).

I have now tried some short clips as per your suggestion, here's what I got . . .

19 secs. @ 640 X 480: worked fine so raised the resolution
19 secs. @ 1024 X 600: worked fine
1 mins. 9 secs. # 1024 X 600: worked fine
4 mins. @ 1024 X 600: worked fine
6 mins. @ 1024 X 600: Media Error @ approx 5 mins. 10 secs.
5 mins. 49 secs. @ 1024 X 600: worked fine ( the full movie previously gave the Media Error right in the middle of this clip)
9 mins. 15 secs. @ 1024 X 600: Media Error @ approx 8 mins. 30 secs.
9 mins. 15 secs. @ 640 X 480: Media Error @ approx 8 mins 26 secs.

Just to make this clear . . . Media Error comes up on the Playbook while playing the file, not in Roxio while converting.

The recommended format is precisely the default setting  in Roxio's Convert other than resolution which should be 1024 X 600.

I can't imagine that the device isn't receiving the whole file in-tact. I had 9 different converted movies fail to play thru to the end but many other mp4's from various sources succeed. These others have been copied over through the usb port the same as the converted ones. I'll fiddle around with the Drag and Drop routine, but don't you expect it would use the same program code to do the conversion? I also noticed there are Options to play with in Convert, such as hardware render and software render. I think I'll play with that too.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Incidentally, I've also tried converting these movies for different hardware such as General and Android and some others. I've tried a few that use H.264 compression producing an mp4 file with the same type of results.

Using software rendering made no difference.

It is Video Copy & Convert not "roxio convert"... Proper names avoid any chance of confusion ;)

I found my Cruz Tablet to be very finicky about conversions... But there it would either NOT PLAY or play Audio Only :(

I also have another Android OS tablet that proves very difficult to update  Last major update, (10 GB) required 35 download files instead of the "5" that I needed :(

This is probably not the problem but I only tell you this so you realize it is rarely the 'Click-n-Smile that they advertise on TV

Also tinker with the Data Rate in VCC... Try 4000 kbps. It will increase the file size but if it proves successful, then try working it back toward the default 2000 kbps.

Edit: You asked about the Roxio programs using the same code for conversion... NO - VideoWave, SyncIt & Video Copy and Convert all use seperate coding to process files! That is why I recommended it, just another way to Change the Process ;)

(if anyone else has a Playbook - Love to hear your results with VCC  )

I don't have one but i saw that there was a recent (March 9) update to the OS.   bluesnow, are you using the oldser os version or the new one?

I don't know if there is much of a difference or if it would affect your original problem.

I do have the updated OS for Playbook, and can't go back to the old one for a test.

Regardless of finicky devices, it's only the Roxio Video Copy an Convert  movies that won't play through. Those same movies converted using the shareware program I downloaded play just fine. The drawback of the shareware program is that the video quality is "Medium" unless I buy the full version. It also doesn't provide a selection for a screen size of 1024 X 600. I don't really want to pay for that program having just invested in Roxio at Xmas.

I'll play with the other conversion routines and with data rates when I get the time (four grand kids here for a sleepover tonight!). My son-in-law also has a Playbook, I'll have him load one of the movies to see if there's any difference.

You can also try one of the other converters like Drag and Drop Convert. Try some of the different settings there:

I tried Drag and Drop Convert but it doesn't support the conversion of vob files which is what makes up my originals.

I've also tried a bit rate of 2500 (maximum available under the Category Blackberry/Playbook) and 8000 (under the Category General/Video). Both failed to play till the end.

Try different source files.

Vob's are mpeg make sure the folder they are in. Hide Extensions is unchecked. Then just right click the vob click rename. Make sure the (.) is before mpeg.
