Label Creator

I am running Windows Vista Home premium 64 bit.

In my installation [Win 7, 32-bit] the download of information to Label Creator is controlled by a value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Roxio\EMC13\Label Creator\Settings
Here is a screenshot of that key's contents.
lcset.jpg 86.55K
0 downloadsIf the box is checked in "Enable audio CD information . . " then the value in DownloadEnable is '1'. Unchecking the box changes that to '0'.
I don't know if this key will be in the same position in your Vista-64 registry, but if it isn't then a search in the registry for "DownloadEnable" should find it.
I'd suggest unloading Label Creator, changing that value from 0 to 1, and then running Label Creator again to see if it has changed the checkbox. It does in mine.
If you need guidance on how to change the registry value please come back here and I'll help you through it.

Brendon

Brendon,
This is what I see in Registry editor--
registry editor.JPG 84.54K
0 downloadsnext to download enable is 0x00000000 (0)
When I right click on Download Enable, I have a choice of modify or modify binary data. On the modify screen, it's title is edit DWORD (32 bit) value, Value is Download Enable , a single 0 which I can change, Base choice hexadecimal is checked, the other choice is decimal.
On the Edit Binary value screen the numbers are 0000 00 00 00 00 .... It looks like I can change any/all of the sets of 00 but not the set of 0000. The .... also cannot be changed.
Obviously I do not know what to do. I really do not want to make mistakes with editing the registry. Label Creator is part of the whole suite of programs included with creator 2012 and I do not know how to uninstall just the one program.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

You found the place okay.
To alter that value, do a left double-click on DownloadEnable. You should see a box appear looking like this.
edit.jpg 75.65K
0 downloadsAs you can see, the 'Value data' is zero, and it is highlighted in blue.
To change that, tap the '1' key to make it 1, and then click the OK button. The edit box will disappear, and the new value should be 1.
Please get straight back to me if that isn't happily clear.

Brendon,
I did as you suggested, changed the "value data" to '1'. The new value changed to 1. Tried again to enable audio CD information download under Tools, Options in Label Creator. The area is still grayed out. I restarted the computer to be sure the registry change had taken place. The value is still 1. Should the download prompt and download proxy values be changed also?
Any more suggestions?
When I insert the disc and open Windows Media Player all the information comes up just fine, so I know the computer can read from the drive.
Thanks, Grace

On my system [Windows 7] when you check the box, the registry value changes and the download is enabled or disabled. When you edit the registry value the reverse happens, and the box gets checked or unchecked accordingly. Like a car door lock, you can open it from the outside with a key or from the inside by pulling the knob up.
I had hoped we could enable yours by 'pulling the knob up' in the registry but something seems to be disconnected and I don't know what it is. I can't duplicate your problem because I don't have Vista and can't run a 64-bit OS on this machine.
Perhaps someone else here might be able to help, or even Roxio Support if you contact them?
Regretfully,

I just tried to do what Grace is attempting and I have the same problem. The option to enable the download from the database are greyed out. I went into the registry and changed the key from 0 to 1 and it has no effect.
To make sure that the database is read for a commercial CD, I then ripped at CD to my hard drive. All the track information was downloaded and displayed properly
So it does seem that for the C2012 Label Creator, the option to read the database cannot be enabled.
Perhaps someone else can confirm this

Make sure that you firewall is not blocking access to tnad from that Rovi site.
Edit, I just tired using "Edit Sing Information" and the program went out to the database so it seems to work for some applications. Hvae you tried using that program in the suite?

I don't see how the firewall could have any effect on whether the options to enable the music database are greyed out or not.
In any case when ripping a CD I get the CD info from the database.

Have you ever seen a flummox? Well, I've just been flummoxed and I didn't see it coming.
Please bear with me a minute and I'll try and explain.
about.jpg 20.41K
0 downloadsNow, in Windows 7 Ultimate the program behaves as I described in post #2. Checking the box in the Roxio Label Creator options changes the value of the DownloadEnable key, and vice versa changing the registry value checks or unchecks the box.
Since both Grace and Walt [myguggi] struck the problem in Vista, I reluctantly installed Vista Home Premium 32 on a clean HD, updated it to SP2, and then installed Creator 2012 Pro with default settings. Here's what I found.
[1] The checkbox in Options was greyed-out.
options.jpg 48.53K
1 downloads[2] There was NO DownloadEnable key in that part of the registry on my system
settings2.jpg 68.1K
2 downloads[3] Making that registry key and putting '1' in it had no effect on the options box, so I deleted it
again
[4] I put a commercial disc in the drive and clicked on 'Autofill from Disc' and look what happened anyway
autofill.jpg 87K
0 downloads[5] I selected one, and there y'are . .
autofill2.jpg 88.74K
0 downloads[6] There is still no DownloadEnable registry key visible, and the checkboxes are still greyed-out in 'Options' as above.
Somewhere about then the wild flummox must have got me from behind, and I now have no idea how this thing us supposed to be controlled.
There is a checkbox under the Multiple Audio Ripper > Settings to toggle the lookup of Audio CD information with "Rovi M..." but that doesn't seem to change Label Creator's behavior.
One final request before I lie down with a cold, damp cloth on my forehead:
Grace and Walt, would you please see if 'Auto-Fill from Disc' does a Rovi look-up on a commercial CD for you please - despite the grey-outs in Options?
Thank you,
Brendon

Ok, I did some more checking.
First of all I get the DownloadEnable registry key in the Settings as shown in the image below.
Label Creator Settings.jpg 146.58K
0 downloadsI then set the key value to 1. Opened the Options window and all options are greyed out. Clicked Ok.
Select Autofill from disc and got the "default Track 01, etc" entries. Looked at the Options setting again and the key was back at 0. Reset key to 1.
This time the AutoFill got the correct data from the CD as shown below.
fromCommercial CD.jpg 121.42K
0 downloadsLooked at options setting: key still at 1
Opened Options window (keyes greyed out), clicked Cancel.
AutoFill again got correct data from CD.
Registry key is still at 1.
So the way to get it to work is:
-set the registry key to 1 but do not open the Options window. If you do, make sure you close it by "cancelling" and not hitting Ok since that sets the key to 0

Your Vista 64 Home Premium then is behaving differently then mine. When I click the Ok in the Tools/Option window the "Download Enable" key is always clearedcleared., if I click Cancel, then the key stays set.
This may be a stupid question but you are connected to the Internet when you try the "AutoFill"?

Is the CD fairly new or very old. If no one has put the information into the data base, it cannot return a good answer. For Gracenotes, it would ask if you wanted to upload the information. I don't know if the "new" Rovi one gives you that opportunity.

Hello again,
Yes I am connected to the internet--we use Starband satellite for our ISP and it is always on- no other option available here in Lake Clark National Park. Yes, we do have full time village power, not just a generator.
The albums I tried have hardly every been played--I ripped them to the computer and loaded them onto the iPod.
They are Michael Buble's Crazy Love and Lionel Richie/Commodores Gold Disc 1.
Occasionally when I click auto-fill from disc I do get the window saying information could not be found and do I want to upload the information from this CD. Obviously, I think both albums are new/old enough that the info should be in their data bank. I have owned both CDs over a year.
This is making me crazy.

Do you see the CD data from the database when you rip the CD to your hard drive? That should work without having to set anything in the registry.
