Recently purchased RC 2012 SE (Costco) and have been trying to use the Roxio Roxio Video Capture USB device that came with my RC 2011 version.  It keeps telling me that the "Selected video capture device failed." (See Attached error.jpeg)  I looked in the Device Manager and it is listed in the sound portion of the listing and the properties tell me it's working properly. (See Attached DevMgr.JPG).  The driver for the device is the latest I could get from Roxio. Is there something more I can check on or is this device not compatible?  Assistance appreciated.

Are you running XP?

I can only duplicate that message by actually removing the device from the USB Port!

That indicates that somewhere along the line, yours is being disconnected...

Check to make sure that all connections from PC to VCR are secure and stay secure! (that mini USB connector on the device is susceptible to coming loose)

I'm running Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1 with an Intel Core i7-2600 CPU, 8GB memory. There are 3 differences I noticed in your screenshot and the one I submitted.  Mine states capture device failed, yours states capture device has been lost.  Yours also shows the preview screen where mine never comes up.  Additionally, yours shows "there are no devices for this media type" in the drop down device box where mine shows the Roxio Video Capture USB device. The connections all along the line are secure. Thanks for the quick reply.

I have some questions about these other devices showing in Device Manager.

Why are they showing are the all plugged in while using Roxio?

What caused the VSO Devices in Device manager? It usually means a Patin Couffin engine driver is normally related to other CD writing programs, not Roxio.

I am getting the exact same results as Jocarbo. I am  a fair user but not really savvy on all the video lingo so please bear with me. I am running win7 64 bit on an HP Pavilion Elite HPE. See attached. I bought and installed Easy VHS to DVD 3 as per the instructions. As you can see both drivers are present. I bought and installed Creator 2012 hoping that would help to resolve the problem. I also had a previous video capture device, a Pinnacle 510 USB that I used with an old version of Studio 11. Studio 11 is for 32 bit only so I uninstalled. I tired using the Pinnacle 510 as well as the Roxio video capture device and while they both show up on the device mgr as well as in the video window as Jacarbo, neither one of them displays a signal to the preview window.

Any suggestions?

The device should work fine with both Creator 2012 Capture as well as EVD 3, but you don't have the drivers installed correctly!

You will need to open the Device Manager then with the USB Device plugged in, Disable BOTH entries in the Device Manager.

Unplug the device and remove it from the room!

I strongly recommend you temporarly disable any Anti Virus and Firewall that you may have running.

Your choice then, either start the install of EVD 3 or the Creator 2012 Suite and pick Repair when it is offered.

Reboot and it will now work correctly and you entries in the Device Manager will look like this:

Generally, never insert any USB device into a computer until the software is installed ;)

Guru,

Thanks for the post. I should preface this by telling you that I have tried all sorts of versions of what you instructed leading up to my original post including uninstalling the drivers etc. Nothing worked. I had not tried disabling so I did that. But first I should tell you that I tried all this on my laptop yesterday and it worked fine. I resorted to converting vhs to digital on my laptop then switching to the more powerful desktop for editing etc. The drivers look exactly the same so that kind of narrows it to the desktop.

In the past each time I repaired or uninstalled the software, both vhs to dvd3 or creator 2012, I removed the capture device until after reboot was complete. I tried connecting the device before and after starting up the programs after reboot....nothing worked.

So I followed your instructions to the "T" and I got the same result. Same drivers and same "No Video Signal" . Screenshot attached of device manager. I should also tell you that I installed the latest driver and software for my graphics card......nothing. It is obvious that there is a conflict somewhere in my desktop. It may the old pinnacle capture device. I have never installed that on the laptop.

At this point it makes sense for me to stop wasting time attempting to get it to work on the desktop since I can transfer on my laptop to dvd and then use that raw video on the dvd to upload to desktop and edit there. Unless you have another idea that sounds plausible, that will be my strategy at this point. Thanks for  your help.

zolt, your C2012 version is not the Pro version?

The drivers your showing in device manager are the Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus drivers.

If you don't have C2012 Pro or the old USB Capture device you will never show the drivers Mr Hardin is showing..

I have C2012 not pro. The capture device is the one that came with the Easy VHS to DVD3 which is the Roxio Video Capture device. (Pic attached) I just realized that there are residual files left over from an attempt to install Pinnacle Studio that was not a 64 bit program. I'm going to try to clean that up and see if that was causing the conflict.  thx

There are very few 64 bit programs! Roxio isn't a x64 bit program either. MS is smart enough and know that so they make it work and they reside in the x86 folder that is 32 bit programs allowing them to run on a x64 OS.

Use your USB Capture device and your Easy VHS to DVD3 program to capture your video.

Ah, I see you have the newest version of the Capture Device. In that case the drivers listed are correct ~ my bad :(

Would you be good enough to tell me the numbers in the upper left corner (above the EU compliance) and the numbers below the bar code... The ones we got didn't have a sticker ^_^

In your first 2 posts (#6 & #7) you said the problem was "Capture Device Removed".

Now you are saying that it is "No Video Signal", which is completly different!

If that is the case, make sure you use the drop box (2012 Capture Video only) to confirm that it is matched to the Source Input - Composite or S-Video... (With the EVD3 Software, it is automatic ;) )
