i just bought it today and the box cover said it does CD ,DVD and blue ray ,burning ,copying and ripping but the book ONLY explains how to burn and i cant find the option for ripping dvd's , i have been at it for 6 hours now and im very annoyed with this. how come i cant rip anything when it says i can on the box cover?

At $30 of course it is a cut back version of software. It will do everything it says it will do but not what you might have read into it... 
As cd pointed out, it cannot be a commercial copy protected disc! That is illegal so no software you buy in a store in the US is going to have such a thing!
I am curious as mine is an older copy. Where does it say anything about Blue-Ray??? Mine says nothing and I just looked at the Best Buy site and nothing concerning BD was mentioned

its the windows 7 version and the P/N number for it is 150402-0OUN i bought it from wall mart yesterday . and my roxio has both those option in the pictures shown but i saw no option for ripping . and i have older movies that predate the copy protection and it does not work. so maybe its just a Burn program and i misunderstood it? anyway though i can burn things which useful but it would be cool if i knew if it ripped like it said on the box.

my definition of rip is copying a dvd to my laptop for making varied videos with music from clips from the dvd i want to rip or upload if that helps?
and copy means the same thing to me as well

You can 'Add' non-copyrighted material as I have indicated. Does it work for you if you follow those steps?

Of the 150 or so DVD Movies I have, not a single one is NOT copyrighted! Pretty hard to believe you have some that are not

it want copy and i meant i have ones that are not protected and can be uploaded if i had a [program to rip the dvd's , im sorry for confusing everyone . i am just trying to figure things out so i can rip some dvd's . i will try buying a program that says only ripping on the box cover and not all those other features it has labeled on the box like this program did.
here is the box cover and what it says.
i know it says burning on it but it has these other things at the bottom it says it does unless i am taking it to literally if so im sorry for taking up time with this post.

If all you want to do is rip non protected DVD's?
Just highlight everything in the video_ts folder, right click copy, make a new folder where you want it, right click new folder, then right click paste in that folder. Your DVD is copied/ripped to that folder.
