I am trying to install Creator 2012 on a laptop running Windows 7. There is no previous version of Creator but Roxio Easy VHS to DVD is installed.

I ran into similar problems as others when it came to the issue with the installation being interrupted as posted here:

Roxio 2012 Pro Installation Interrupted

and here:

Read The Forum, Still Can't Get 2012 Installed

I followed these instructions but it did not solve my problem. The issue is that my laptop has a more up to date version of DirectX installed (v. 11).

I can't upload my log file for the Roxio install as it is over the 2 meg limit.

Is there any workaround for this? Are there any plans for Roxio to update Creator 2012 so that it works with the most recent version of DirectX (11) and not version 9 as is shipped with product?

Thanks for any assistance.

A physical disc or a download?

If a disc, copy the contents to a folder on your desktop and run the setup.exe from the desktop folder.

Roxio and other software company's use DirectX 9 to be backward compatible with older windows versions and hardware.

I'll PM (personal message, up top messenger) you a email address you can send the log file to.

Thanks for uploading the file and your attempts to assist.

It is a physical disk. I already tried copying the files to the hard drive and installing from there as that suggestion was I one of the links I posted (or another I forgot to bookmark).

I will send/upload my other log files tomorrow.

I think the problem is that it needs to be forward compatible. The version of DirectX on my laptop is 11. Since the install fails when Creator is trying to install DirectX v.9, which I'm assuming is an older version then I was thinking this was the cause.

I forgot to add that was able I re-install Creator 2010 on the laptop. I had uninstalled 2010 before trying 2012 as I believed this would create the best environment to accept 2012. There may be some hooks left over from 2010 or it may work better installing 2012 on top of 2010. If anyone has thoughts on this or experienced problems with upgrading from 2010  to 2012 directly please let us know. Thanks.

It's not failing at DirectX read the quote in post #3, it is the error from your log files.

All kinds of programs use DirextX 9 for the reasons I previously explained.

I received all 50 some mega byte of logs and since they were the same error I only posted the one log.

They all point to the same error and not a DirectX error, do you understand that?

There is a bug in the install if you have non-default video, photo, music folders set. Try the solution here
http://forums.suppor...o-content-2012/
You can reset the locations after installation.

This is the error you're getting.

Error 1317.An error occurred while attempting to create the directory C:\Users\Laura\Documents\My Music

Thanks for your help.

I tried the first set of instructions posted by elawrie (post #4) at that link ("Click on folder My Music > right click > Restore Defaults"). I have several (related to restore points). Please see attached screen dump.

I tried the second set of instructions Sonic Boom (post #8). My settings are already as indicated in the screen dump in the post. Please find mine attached.

I then followed the third set of instructions provided by Sonic Boom (post #9). When I went to add the directory "Music" to C:\Users\Laura\Documents\My Music I was prompted with a dialogue box that stated something to the effect of, "If you add a directory called "Music" it will be merged with "My Music". I chose "no" and the directory was not created. I tried again and chose "yes" (sorry I didn't think to grab a screen dump of the dialogue box). I am the administrator on this laptop.

I started the install anyway and seemed to get much further this time. The icons for Creator 2012 even loaded on the desktop before the rollback/uninstall was initiated. Also I left Roxio Creator 2010 installed this time. It appears to be still working.

My log file for this latest install is about 4 mg. If someone could tell me which of the individual 13 log files I should look at/upload we can try that. Here's a list:

directx_feb10_install.log
directx_feb10_uninstall.log
emc_13x_install.log
emc_13x_uninstall.log
facefilter_install.log
facefilter_uninstall.log
rbvirtualfolder64_0160_install.log
rbvirtualfolder64_0160_uninstall.log
roxiocentral_6x_install.log
roxiocentral_6x_uninstall.log
sonic_setup.log
virtualdrive64_13x_install.log
virtualdrive64_13x_uninstall.log

If there are any suggestions about how to proceed with this situation please let me know.

Same error. Try creating a separate administrative user and install through new account (can delete after). This should set all the necessary folders and permissions to default.
