Well the subject says it all  :)

I'm using  OS X 10.4.7 on an Intel Mini and iTunes encoded audio from CDs in AAC 128Kbps. Happens in both admin and non-admin accounts.

I've tried selecting the files and folders from within Toast and via drag and drop, and the most I have been able to get is 3 items listed, but sometimes none. I then see the rainbow spinning ball and Toast then crashes.

I have just purchased Toast 7 today, so I can't check if this is present in earlier versions.

Regards
Paul

Upgrade to Toast 7.1 and see if this fixes the problem.
My opinions expressed are not those of roxio.

I'm using Toast 7.1, that is all I have access to as this is what one gets when buying today, hence why I put it in the subject  :)

Try importing audio via toast and see if those audio files work any differently then the ones extracted with iTunes.

I'm not sure I understand by 'importing audio via toast': I have used the Add and + functions within Toast and the Media tab in the drawer.

I can reliably get it to crash using the same tracks, and likewise to not crash with a few other tracks. All were encoded with the same settings and the version of iTunes and Quicktime are the same.

Oh, what I mean by importing them with Toast is to rip them off the orignal CD with Toast.  Drag an audio CD into the Toast audio layout, then use the export button at the bottom.
Even if you have to use different audio to test with, it helps us narrow down if the problem is with the encoding of the original files or something else.

I just tried with a short CD, which I had to hand, but it wasn't one that I was using before.

Anyway, it worked, as did dragging the CD to the audio Music DVD layout without exporting first.

I'll have to test with the CDs of the problematic tracks tomorrow.

Thanks
Paul
