How And Where To Start To Create/edit Video
#1

I have about a dozen various videos I have taken using my FLIP that I want to cut and splice into perhaps 3 or 4 different promotional videos for some of my gym members. These are various workouts that I want to have accompanying fast paced music along with and some snap changes, fade in and outs, hard turns, etc.
Anyway, I have been trying to figure this out for over a week now and I cannot figure out how to get the videos into an edit section where I can then work on them properly. Once I get one video into the editor if I click on background music I constantly get an error and the program shuts down.
Also, while in the edit mode I cant figure out how to assign various pieces of the video to different storyline boxes or section the videos out.
So to ask some direct questions:
1 - is it possible to splice various video sections into one special video promo?
2 - how do i layer music over top of this (fyi, yes i did download latest quicktime and update it)
3 - is there anyplace that I can go that will have easy step by step instructions to show me how to do these things? I dont know why software never has instructions. this drives me insane. Had i known this was so difficult I would not have bought this program.

Thanks for the replies. For the first reply saying to look at the tutorials. Thank you for taking the time to respond but I did watch every single one of them and read the pdf's but none of them addressed what I am trying to do. I want to be able to take bits and pieces of about 10 total videos ad splice them together in different places using various effects like page turning, dissolves, etc. I also want to loop music in with the video and I cannot seem to get the music from roxio into any of the videos.
for the other two who put up links, thank you very much. I will look over them and hopefully some of this will make sense to me. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond to my questions. Have a great day!

Where did you get the videos and what format are they?
Add the videos to the Video Wave (Edit Video Advanced) time line. Split the video in pieces so you can separate the parts you want to keep from those you don't want to keep. Watch this.
As for transitions, I like to switch to story line to add the transitions. Just drag them between the blocks. You can also use a random set of transitions as a package. If you "trim" the transition, you can change the line the are displayed.
For music switch back to timeline. The music must be audio files you own. Some audio files from places like ITunes can't be added because of DRM protection. Read the information on the music files you have. If you "own" them, you can use them. mp3 or wav files are the best to add; Actually wav files are the best. You can convert the mp3 files to wav with one of the audio conversion programs in Creator 2012. If you are trying to use Smart Sound, you can only use the music you own. Search for "owned" in the Smart Sound search box.
Add the music on one of the audio tracks, music, narration, sfx. If you don't want the audio from the video, you will have to mute the sound. Select Hidden tracks and click on native. That will show up just below the video track. You will have to mute the audio tracks for each section unless you mute each video as you add it to the timeline.
Is that a better start? The other information is more detailed. The above is more of a checklist overview.
Where are you having the issues?

In addition to what sknis has posted, I would recommend that you start with simple projects and experiment until you are familiar with some of the features and methods. Don't try to do a "full-blown" project right away as you will often "paint" yourself into a corner and have to start over again.

Now, on to the issues I just worked with.
1 - In cinemagic is there any way to crop out the "animated" section of the video in production? I am creating 30-45 second quick videos and the first 30 seconds of them either comes up blurry with a different music background or it comes up with an image taken from one of the videos but so far the image the it picks isnt one that i like. Is there a way to randomize those initial images to scroll through some standard pics then roll into the video itself?
2 - many of the video chunks I am using are only 10 - 25 seconds long of action. when i go to select scene there are no scenes to select, only the full videos. now i probably should note that because I use smaller vid snips I am adding sometimes up to 6 different videos that equal out to a total of 2 - 3 minutes in overall length in order to create a 45 second promo video. Is there a way to choose which 10 second bursts of a 30 second snippet I get? Or should I just take those videos and cut them up in windows movie and then upload the new version?
3 - the ROXIO music. there were I think 50 tracks that came with this that are under triple play music on my saved drive. everytime i try to access any of that music i get an error message and the entire program is forced to shut down. is this a bug in the software perhaps?
I am going to get daring and try some advanced editing with the video clips i have made so far.
I really appreciate everyone's input and help here. This is all going to save me thousands of dollars which we really need right now having started our own business.

Do not use Cinemagic for anything. It is a very limited program lacking many features. Use Videowave (Edit Video - advanced) to create your slideshows.

If you want to strike out on your own, do so, but don't ask for help and suggestions on how to do things. Remember we are not Tech Service we are experienced users. Much of what we suggested was user made. Now you seem to be dismissing those efforts.

Im so sorry that I had the audacity to actually try out different parts of the program. You are so right. The nerve of me. And your cute little lead the horse to water joke. Holy crap that was funny. I am still laughing so hard at how clever you are to be able to put someone down who doesn't know anything.
The shame of it all is that I was very polite in asking questions. I was very cordial and thankful of any responses. I had no clue that if you gave advice I was to blindly follow it with no deviation and no curiosity of my own.
Maybe you should change your screen name to Hitler? And the *$$^%&! with the little picture, perhaps you can be Stalin? This was my mistake in coming to a forum where there are so many posts from other members saying what jerks you guys are.
SKNIS - you may know the pitfalls of something. I do not. Nobody here ever said NOT TO !@#%ING USE IT EITHER YOU IGNORANT PILE OF ^#!&

Now do you want information on how to use other parts of the program; just ask.
