I have converted a movie to the SVCD format which is compatible with the DVD player off of a Sony DVD+R disc but I'm not sure which program I should use to open it to play it so that it will play on the DVD player.  Any suggestions?

Does the user manual for your Sylvania say it supports SVCD?.

Did you have a specific reason to convert it to SVCD?.

I don't understand your question? Have you created the SVCD disc already? Have you just created a video file in the mpeg1 (for a SVCD disc) format and now want to burn to a CD?

Why would you want to create a low quality SVCD disc if you already have a DVD?
