When I first bought it, I successfully used my Capture device a couple of times, but one day I tried connecting the device and upon starting the Roxio program, I got a message saying to "Please connect your Easy VHS to DVD Capture hardware to any USB 2.0 port."

I've tried it again and again, but It hasn't been recognized since.
PLEASE HELP!

Have you totally shut down your Mac, waited about 10 seconds and then restarted it? That might reset things. Which application are you using? Is it Roxio Video Capture or Easy VHS to DVD Capture? If it is the latter have you installed the update from Roxio's Software Updates page? Which version OS X are you running?
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thank you for replying,

I did try restarting my Mac, no change.
I am using "Easy VHS to DVD", and yes I did install the update, still no change.
I am running OS 10.5.8

Like I stated above, the product worked fine the first two times I used it. By my third attempt, the computer was not recognizing that the USB device was connected.

There is no reason I can think of for that to happen. When you say "restarting" you did actually shut down and then startup the Mac and not do just a restart, right? There are times when the device needs to be connected after launching the application. If you or a friend has another Mac I suggest checking that it is recognized on the other Mac to determine if something is wrong with the USB device itself. That is unlikely, though.

Thanks for replying,

Yes I did both, simple restart and then a full shut down let rest for 5 minutes and start up again. Neither worked.
I also tried it on my wife's laptop, and it worked for a brief moment (the software windows came up) but with the slightest jiggle of the laptop, the windows disappeared to be replace by the familiar message:
"Please connect your Easy VHS to DVD Capture hardware to any USB 2.0 port."

I think it has to be the actual USB device at this point that is not functioning.

I recommend contacting Roxio's/Corel's customer service to ask for a replacement.

Daniel,

Did you get this problem resolved? I'm having the exact same issue.

Hey Kelly,

Nope, the USB device is a little plastic piece of garbage, my warranty is too old, I'm going to have to buy a new device (and you can bet it's NOT going to be a Roxio product!).

Something I apparently didn't mention previously is the one I got from Roxio had a defective cable connecting the USB device to the video source. Fortunately I have an El Gato device that uses a compatible cable and the Roxio unit works with it. So if there is a product defect it can be either with the device or the connecting cable.

Great!
So it's either the poorly constructed, crappy device, or the poorly constructed, crappy cable!

What are the alternatives on a Mac?
