Hello,
I seem to be having problems burning cdrs (an image file).  I get the following message, when I'd try to burn the CDs at a certain speed.   "There was a problem writing to the disc"  It works fine if I choose maximum speed, but I don't want to burn at 40x.  I've got a  LITE-ON DVD+RW LDW-401S drive and I'm using Verbatim cdrs.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

First off go to Lite-On's website and make sure you have the latest firmware version on your drive.Another thing to try is a different brand of media. This often will solve the problem.

The next thing is to try some "other" speed than you're trying.  I have a drive that won't burn at 12X (it's a 24X drive).  It throws an error right at the beginning of the burn.  I suspect some sort of balance issue, and 12X is some resonance frequency.  It works fine at 8X, or at a faster speed, but not 12X.  So, I don't use 12X, usually I use 8X.

Would not having a available write strategy or available write speed descriptor for 12x on that disc, and no firmware support for a 12x write on that disc.

Could this be a possibility?

Well, it's an older drive, I'm running ECDC 5 on that machine, so in theory, that drive supports 12X to CD-R (it's not a DVD burner).  But again, I'm not worried about it.  It's entirely possible that there's newer firmware for it, haven't looked.  It actually dies before writing anything to the disc, so the disc is still usable.

This is the reason I asked. When I check my Verbatim disc's.

I don't have a available write strategy or available write speed descriptor for 12x
on these disc's.
