Question on the patch though, do you install and reboot and then do the patch or install then do the patch then reboot.

I don't think it makes much of a difference except for rebooting after you run the patch.

I have now got advice from Microsoft to play with the registry. I have never had so many problems with software. Hardware, yes but never software.
If anyone was to give more advice this is what I am running
Windows XP with SP2
P4 1.7, M925
40G HD and 200G HD
DVD Drive and DVD burner
Thanks for all the advise so far, nothing has worked it still shows no recorder after the reboot.
