Stuck Between 5 & 7...

Not having used Toast for several years, I found my original copy of Toast 5 Titanium. I currently use OS 10.3.9 on my iMac DV SE. Of course when I attempted to load Toast 5, Classic started up. When I try to enter my Key # it does not allow me to accept it. In the Read Me File I read about an update for OS X, so I go to the Roxio website, finding no mention of an update.
I thought I read the requirements carefully for Toast 7 Titanium, so I pay & download it online only to find that because my iMac has a G3 processor it won't load. I immediately emailed Roxio, but it has been several days with no response.
It seems I'm unable to use either program with my current OS and computer. There must be some sort of "work around" or solution...
Any/all assistance would be much appreciated...Thanks...

Other then that, unforutnately the Toast downloads have all been removed for bandwidth reasons. You might check to see if you can still find updates on versiontracker or something like that.

Thanks for your reply...I was beginning to wonder if anyone would ever respond...
Tuesday I was successful in reaching Roxio via phone & I believe my problem is solved. I was given a refund of Toast 7 & I then downloaded Toast 6. It is compatible with my processor & OS, so I'm set to go...
One quick question...How do I assign my external burner to Toast 6? It seems to be assigned to iTunes & checking preferences for both does not seem to allow me to change the assignment.
Thanks again for responding to my initial post...

Click the name of the drive that appears below the burn button. Toast will search for any other connected disc-burning drive.

Done that...When I click on the burner name, as you suggest, it says "scanning" in red...When I try to record I get a message "The drive is busy or has been reserved by another application."
Any suggestions?
Thanks...

The only time I've seen this is when I have two copies of Toast open or have Toast and Popcorn open at the same time. If you don't have any other applications open and you get this message then something is wrong. I suppose you've tried shutting down, waiting a few minutes and restarting the Mac (rather than just doing a restart). If the problem still appears then I'd try downloading and installing the Combined System Updater for your version of OS X. This sometimes fixes Firewire (and USB) problems that appear after doing incremental system updates.

Embarassingly there was a "pre-burned" disc already in the burner...I removed that & then went from "Best" down to 10X & I was able to make a straight "Copy"...
Why would I have to move from "Best", past 12X to 10X before my Que burner would function properly?
Thanks for your support...

When you insert a blank disc the drive's firmware examines the disc and reports to Toast what burn speeds are supported by that drive to that disc. It should work to leave the setting on Best, which is the fastest speed supported by that drive with that media. However, it often can be wise to choose a slower speed as it reduces the chance for writing errors by the drive. This is true for CDs as well as DVDs.

By selecting a slower speed, I'm assuming that the quality will remain the same, but it will simply take longer to finish. Is that correct?
Thanks...

Correct. The only thing that is changed is the disc isn't spinning as fast as the data is being written.

When the process is finished there's a button labeled "mount"...I tried to find relevant information via Help, but it only discussed video transfers. How does "mount" relate to burning a straight copy of a CD?
Thanks again...

At the end of the burning it should present a window giving you the option to Mount or to Eject the disc. Mounting the disc puts it on the desktop so you can read or play the disc on your Mac. It is the same thing that happens when you insert an already burned disc. There also should be an Eject button in that window so you can eject the disc when it's done.

I, too am stuck between Toast 5 and 7. I just bought 7 only to find the download won't upgrade me from Toast 5. I have iMac G4 with OS 10.4.7. I bought the upgrade from Roxio today. What are my options? I really want Toast 7 but if that won't work, then I want my refund.

As you know, my problem was not having a G4 processor. I'm now very happy with Toast 6, btw. YOU should be fine with a G4 & OS 10.4.7. Unfortunately, Roxio no longer supports Toast 5 in any way, so I think your best bet is to phone tech support. If you purchase a full version of Toast 7 you should be in great shape. Let me know how it all works out...

Toast 7 should work fine with your Mac. I don't understand what you mean by "the download won't upgrade me from Toast 5." Toast 7's install doesn't do anything to Toast 5 (or Toast 6 for that matter). In fact, I have all those versions on my G4 iBook because it sometimes helps me answer a question about the previous versions.
To install Toast 7 drag the Toast 7 Titanium folder from the mounted disc image to your Applications folder. Go to the Applications folder, open the Toast folder and open the Toast application. The setup screen will appear and ask for you to enter the registration number emailed to you by Roxio.

Tsantee you were so right. I downloaded 7 and it works fine. Thanks for your help.

Minimum System Requirements:
PowerPC G4 processor or faster (G5 recommended for viewing DivX files on your Mac)
PowerPC G3 processor and Mac OS 10.2 users
Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later
300 MB of free disk space to install
Up to 15 GB of temporary free disk space during usage
QuickTime 7 or later
CD or DVD burner and recordable media
As you can see by the text I have bolded, it would seem that I can upgrade to toast 7 titanium even though I am using an iMac with a G3 processor. It wasn't until after I completed my 5 hour long download and tried to install the software that I discovered it wouldn't work on my computer and I had just wasted $89.00. Can you also help me resolve this issue? I would really appreciate it. I would either like a refund or a Toast Product that will work on my mac.
Thank You.

Thank You.
Roxio issues refunds when requested in (I think) 15 days of download purchase. There should be info about this either in the purchase email or elsewhere on Roxio's site.
This is what that bold faced line states when I checked System Requirements in the pages promoting Toast 7:
"PowerPC G3 processor and Mac OS 10.2 users, see Toast 6 Titanium or Popcorn".

There seems to be a discrepancy between the system requirements listed here and the ones you found. Roxio needs to fix this discrepancy so others like me and Eddie1349 don't have the same confusion.
Thank you for your help. I was able to finally find the return procedure and I have initiated it. Now can you tell me where I can find a copy of Toast 6 Titanium? Roxio apparently doesn't sell this product anymore. Thanks again for all your help.
