If you have WinXP SP2, many have found it impossible to run ECDC 5 with WinXP SP2.
If you have WinPlayer 9, you cannot successfully reinstall ECDC 5 without reformatting the Hard Drive - WinPlayer 9 is permanent, and doesn't come back out completely. If you have a newer Version of RealAudio, it will interfere with ECDC 5. Also, iTunes will prevent ECDC 5 from working.
Basicly, ECDC 5 is a 1999 program, and doesn't work well with newer software.
Other than that, if you have your original ECDC 5 install disc, it would be a matter of doing an add/remove, run roxizap, and install.

And your system specs are? If you had troubles with 6 and 7, there would be no point in getting 8, because it is possible your computer doesn't meet the minimum specifications of the software.
You can go back to version 5 quite easily.

Otherwise, maybe you could detail the problems you've had with EMC 7, or ECDC 6, and maybe we could find some solutions.
Let us know.

Did you notice this thread is over a month old?
Do you have Versions 6 and/or 7 already installed? And they work? Then perhaps your computer has enough resources (memory, processor power, etc) to support the program. It appears the original poster doesn't.
Did you notice the orignal poster didn't give any details with what was wrong? That makes it VERY hard to figure out what the problem is.

I have version 5 running sweetly on my XP-SP2, but if you can't get version 7 working you probably won't be able to make 5 go, either. It's not supported under XP-SP2.

You probably can't go back to that version on Win XP.
Also, no one should upgrade software if a previous version is working on their system. The only exception would be if the newer version has significant new features that would add extremely useful abilities that you think you really need.
However, maybe you can solve your problems with a clean install, since other programs may have screwed up Roxio [though, I know from experience, Roxio software is screwy stuff, but it's nice once you get it to work properly].
Before trying the following steps, be sure to set a System Restore Point.
Do a normal uninstall using the Add / Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel.
Then use a program like System Mechanic / Norton Utilities / Fix-It Utilities to 'fix' the regtistry, which will help to remove stray entries left by Roxio. Even Ccleaner has a nice little feature that gets rid of worthless registry entries. Also be sure to go into Windows Explorer, use the "Search" feature, and remove any Roxio folders left behind. Be sure to reboot.
Be sure to set another System Restore Point before preceding further.
Also, you may need to remove any programs that came with your system which duplicate Roxio's features. On my new Dell Dimension E510, I had to also remove Dell DLA, and a few Sonic apps, because these were actually Roxio programs, and Easy Media Creator 7.5 wouldn't run properly with them installed. Check with your computer's tech support / online helps to determine what such programs are presently on your computer and how to safely remove them.
Be sure to set a System Restore Point before removing each of them.
After rebooting, you should run Check Disk and Disk Defragmenter, even your Antivirus software & anti-spyware software, to be sure there's not some other unknown problem lurking in the background.
Reboot again, and set another System Restore Point.
Then install your most recent version of Roxio. I recommend a Full Install of all programs, unless hard disk space is in severly short supply.
Then reboot and see how things work. Good luck! :-)
