Hdmi Passthrough Not Working Unless Connected To Pc

Question

So when I first unboxed my new HD PRO I connected my HDMI cables up and noticed that the passthrough did not work without power to the device. I figured this was normal since HDMI passthrough or splitter devices require power to work. Just out of curiosity I plugged the Roxio HD USB cable into the front of my XBOX Slim to see if the passthrough would work.

It did not.

After installing the software on my laptop, I plugged the USB into my laptop and surprisingly the passthrough still did not work. I then launched the Roxio Game Capture software and wallah! Passthrough worked...had the image on my TV and all was good. I clicked the Capture button and also had the preview window working. Excellent.

I also noticed that AFTER the intial launch of the software - passthrough now works WITHOUT launching the Roxio Game Capture software - BUT I am still required to plug the device into my laptop.

Sadly the XBOX USB port still does not allow the device to run it's passthrough. I am required to use a PC USB port for passthrough to work.

Now - you might wonder - what's the problem with that? It works right??

Well.. yes BUT - in order to leave the device attached and play video games I am now required to either A) disconnect the roxio device and re-route HDMI cables or B) Plug the roxio device into my laptop for power.

I don't want to always have to do either of those. I would prefer to just leave the device attached and plug it into the front of my xbox when I'm not capturing anything. This way I don't have to fiddle with the HDMI cables between uses and I can always leave it attached.

Does anyone know if there is not enough current from the XBOX to supply enough power for passthrough to work? I know all USB ports use a 5v power supply - but I'm not sure about how much current is being provided.

Or I am curious if it's just my XBOX Slim or if the passthrough is only supposed to work via PC by design. Roxio??

I do have another XBOX Elite Console in my house - I will try and see if that one works tonight.

I wouldn't mind plugging it into my slim to get power so I don't have to do the same thing you do. I would rather just leave everything plugged in and keep playing rather than choose which way I want to play.

Embalmer did not get back and tell us how it worked on his XBox Console???

One would expect a Pass-through to be just a wired connection without any need for power

I noticed when testing that when using the HDMI ports you have to have all ends connected or the device won't work.

Why this is I don't know (design?).Could be the power thing you mention.I have no clue.

All I know is that is how it is.

I do agree with you though it would be handy to be able to leave it connected without having to go to the PC.

Yea, sorry! I haven't tried on my other XBOX yet.

But I still have to have the USB connected to my PC in order for the passthrough to work. I do plan to do some more experimentation. Stay tuned!

Ok... so no go on the XBOX Elite USB power supply.

I noticed passthrough only works when connected to a PC WITH the Roxio drivers installed. The device will not passthrough anything until you connect it to a PC with the right drivers on it.

I know this because I plugged the USB into a different port on my PC - no passthrough until AFTER the driver installation was completed. So - there ya go. Forever need a PC connected or no passthrough :)

Jim - no special setup here - pic attached.

This was also added to the FAQ. This is apparently by design.
