Bought one of the new ATI TV Wonder 650 tuner cards recently that does MPEG-2 encoding in hardware, but found out that MPEG-2 recorded files are not recognized by EMC 8 MyDVD 8. When I try to add the files to a project using "Add New Movie" in the task menu, my MPEG-2 recorded files show up with a red circle with a red slash through them and I cannot select them for import.

Know there was an issue like this involving Hauppauge tuner cards, but that was back in March and it's now August with apparently no patch!

I re-installed Sonic MyDVD version 4.5 from 2001 and it recognizes the files and burns playable DVDs with no problem!

When is this problem going to be solved in version 8???

I've never had a problem with any Hauppauge file....always worked great.
I doubti it will work but you can try Prefup and see if it  helps. I seem to remember some posts a long time ago complaining about ATI mpeg files.  I thought the fix was something done in the ATI library that fixed it but sorry, I can't remember and it would have been posted in the old forum so I have no way or searching for it now.

problem probably lies on how the MPEG2 file is made which is controlled by ATI's driver for the card...

Thanks, but I tried Prefup with no success.

There probably is something peculiar with the MPEG-2 recorded file generated from the ATI tuner card that MyDVD 8 doesn't like. Nevertheless, what's frustrating is that the 5 year old version of the program (Sonic MyDVD 4.5) doesn't have any problems at all with it, yet this supposely latest greatest version of EMC 8 can't handle it. The "fix" exists if ROXIO would make the effort. I can do without the window dressing and bells and whistles - just give us core functionality for $100!

Guess I'll stick with Version 4.5.

Older versions of MyDVD haven't much in common with MyDVD 8 other than the name.  MyDVD 8 is a result of the merger between Sonic and Roxio.  MyDVD 8 is 'based' on the previous DVD Builder from Roxio.
