I've got a couple vids on Google, not bragging about the quality. which seemed seriously downgraded, ahem, at their end. What settings seem the most practical for this purpose? Any advice obsequiously accepted!

I just took a look at YouTube and they accept several different formats. All of which are probably going to be converted to their format so you don't have much control. According to their site:
What's the best format to upload for high quality? We recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 320x240 resolution with MP3 audio. Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube.
V8 will create those files if you go from VideoWave and then output the file (icon that looks like a film reel). I think the right setting is DivX good quality. (How's that for a How To? )
I didn't look at Google but I'm sure they have similar information.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thanks Sknis! Google accepts a variety of formats, but varies wildly on how long it takes them to transcode or whatever it is they do. Worst case is WMV.
Their discussion is dominatd mostly by these guys who blow hard about the pricely rigs they have- this seems like a friendlier place!
