I'm new to this...so far, I've got a lot of the bugs worked out, but I have a few questions I can't find answers to....

I have the retail version of EMC Suite 8, I installed the upgrade to version 8.05....I also installed the "content" cd.

I made a production using VideoWave. I sent it to MyDVD 8 and did some basic menus. then burned it to DVD. It took forever! But I expected that....so MyDVD did the rendering.  I have an iso file on my hard drive now. I assume it's the DVD that I made...from beginning to end, with the menus. Is that Right?

So, if I want to burn it again.....can I?

When I launch MyDVD and open a project, the extension it wants is *.dmsd, not *iso.

What if I want to change the menus? Will I need to render again?

I'm thinking for large projects, I'll use VideoWave to do it in sections, maybe 10-15 minutes and render it through VideoWave ... I'd select "output as" and select "DVD Playback" and Mpeg-2.

Then, I assume, MyDVD would only need to render the menus...right?

So, what is the *.iso file for? When can I delete it? (I'ts almost 1 GB....not a huge deal, but just curious.

OH, wait, one more thing.......If I can re-burn the DVD through MyDVD..... and I want to make copies for family...assuming the DVD worked perfectly (audio and video in synch and everthing) is it better to let MyDVD do the buring or wil lit work to simply copy the DVD using DiskCopier? I'd make maybe 10 copies.

Thanks!

You can use either Disc Copier or Creator Classic to burn your ISO to disc.  An ISO is a complete image of your video in a full contents file.  You can burn as many copies as you want.

Also, you cannot open an image file (ISO) in MyDVD to edit it, as it is a an exact image of what will be put on the disc (like Paul noted).
To edit your project, you would have to open the original production , make your changes, then render again to a new ISO file or to a disc.

This is just a matter of preference but I like the idea of burning the project to a DVD video folder (got the idea from grandpabruce or ggrussell--I forgot which one) for the reason that you can preview the output (I use CinePlayer) before making copies.

Thanks for confirming it was Gary's.

View ISO - maybe you can enumerate the ways for the benefit of the readers? For me, I am able to view the ISO after launching the DiscCopier--I poke on the play button of the selected ISO file (I only have EMC75 installed even though I have EMC8 and the upgrade version).

In EMC 7.5 you can use Roxio Image Loader to to create a virtual DVD player and then load the ISO file on the virtual drive and then use a software player (like Cineplayer or Roxio Player) to play the "iso" just as if you haad created an actual DVD.

Ah yes, I've done this before too. This method is handy.

Thanks.

I am not sure which "thread" to ask this, but this seems close to my problem. I have created the ISO file of my slideshow, but have not been able to burn it.  When i use creator classic, I get as far as having to enter a write speed and there are no choices in the drop down menu.

I also saved my production created in VideoWave as an mpeg file, but when I tried burning it in MyDVD, it had the appearance of rendering and burning but the disk was blank.

Suggestions?

I will have to uninstall at least one driver to do this somewhat complicated update, and I see the advisory that says this will add new media information but won't solve issues with some software... before I launch into this I'm just wanting to ask -- will this really help?  I did successfully burn a small test dvd earlier, but this project is much larger, 700 photos w/ audio, about 3GB, and I thought perhaps it might be size (even though the disk space shows I'm fine.)

You know, I did go to see about updating the firmware and Dell's website told me not to...
