ok, I just bought Easy Media Creator 8 like a few days ago and i need help with video wave. When i go into video wave i can't do anything it just won't work. My video won't import into the timeline and when i click production > add phot/video, i get the msg that videowave had an error and has to close. Also all the buttons on the left hand side just won't work at all.  If someone could tell me how to take care of these problems please tell me!!

Start by making sure you're video card is updated to current drivers, and that you have the latest version of DirectX installed.

If that doesn't help, post back with your system specs. Something in there may offer enough info for someone to give you some ideas.

Where did your video come from ? Was it captured from a camcorder, the internet, or some other location. If it is one of your own videos that you captured with the program (need to use a firewire cable and preferably as an avi file although mpeg-2 is O.K.), then when you clicked on "Production"--add photo/video", unless you saved your video in a different folder, the program defaults to the "My Videos" folder.

If you saved your video there it should come up in the "Insert Photos/videos" next screen. based on your first post, I assume you are in still in the "Videowave" program. And make sure you have checked the items that Larry suggested. Those items can make a big difference as to how your program reacts.

your video card is fairly old... what is the date for your video card driver? How much video card memory does it have?

My video came form my camcorder but i converted it all into Divx.  Is that still editable or does it have to be avi or mpeg??? Also my driver is updated and i have DirectX 9.

I like to add that VideoWave is the only program not working right in EMC8 everything else is fine.

Just a quick search on ATI's board shows that card was first made Apr 1999.  Although you may have updated drivers that are DirectX 9 'compatible', the card was originally designed for a much earlier Directx (probably  6 or 7) so there is no way it can support the 3D functions needed.  If your computer is the same age as your video card, it's probably very close to the minimum requirements for EMC8.

Launch Videowave
Go to TOOLS/OPTIONS
Make sure that rendering is set to SOFTWARE.

If you have converted all the video ot DivX, Videowave should have no trouble importing those although DivX is not an ideal format for editing since it is so compressed.  Best results will be with editing DV AVI files that are captured from a digital camcorder.

That's never been a problem before with some other editors i've tried but you could be right. Any other ideas of what could be the problem??

Other editors don't use the video card like Videowave.  For instance Adobe has optimized their editor for SSE2 and won't even install if your CPU doesn't have it.  Videowave and MyDVD really requires a video card that fully supports DirectX 9.0c.
