Hello,
I'm trying to burn a large HTML project to disk. It has grown to the point where it spans two CDs (I can not use DVDs at the moment because not all of the machines that I work on have DVD players yet and this project has to be utilized on all of the machines).

I recently ran into a few interesting problems, one is that not all of the burned disks will not work on all computers. E.G. one set will only work on a specific machine, but another set will work on all of them. What's strange is that this happens even when using the same burn file/session and burning the disk pairs one right after the other. The disk pairs will function differently even though they were burned only a few minutes apart. I'm guessing that this is probably a driver issue or cheap disks.

Another problem that I have encountered is making copies of the burned disks. The copies appear to be mirror images of the original disks, but I can't use them to install the project on any machine. Normally the Roxio Retrieve will pop up upon inserting one of the disks, but the copies don't appear to do anything.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A little vague…

Media may be the issue and I would suggest you try some Verbatim discs and see if the results improve.

Otherwise, what File System are you using for the discs?

What OS are your target PC's using?

XP Pro/SP2
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 w/AGP8X

Apologies, I wasn't certain as to what all details would be helpful. I have been using the 700 MB Verbatim disks for the burns. The workstation that is burning the CDs is XP, many of those that are viewing the burned project are (shudders) Win 2000.

I am uncertain as to which file system you are referring to (I'm a newbie when it comes to Roxio).

Well at least we are not dealing with Win3.1 or something… If you are doing any burning with Roxio on W2K, you must be at SP4.

If you right click on a burned CD, it will tell you the File System. There should also be another name in there like CDFS.

Optical media utilizes ISO9660, Joliet or UDF for its' file system.

UDF is the only one that will come close to allowing file names and pathname levels that will even come close to what XP/W2K will allow. In Classic, this is set under File – Project – Properties.

When you click Burn you also want to set these to Read Only.

Can you isolate the discs that don't work to any specific drive or PC?
