Hi

I am trying to burn a dual layer dvd using a lacie DVD drive. Each time I do this I get the error message connection not stable error 50. When I searched google I came up with a hit on the roxio help site with a message.id=16015 - 57k How do I locate this thread. It seesm that there's an issue with the NEC 3500AG driver but I can't get any more info. I've been to the Lacie site but can't find any reference to the problem.

Oddly, some people report that error if they are not using Verbatim DVD+R DL media. Try Verbatim media and see if it works.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Hi I ended up solving the problem by flashing the latest firmware onto the DVD burner. This solved the problem.

Details of how to do this are found on

I used necflash & downloaded the latest nec3500A driver from the liggydee site listed above
There are potential dangers so be careful and make sure that you make a dump of your existing firmware (necflash lets you do this.

I was using imation DVD+R DL this time whereas before I used the Verbatim ones. Thanks for your help.

I was having the same -50 error, even when trying to view disc info, and found this page via google. Updating the firmware on my burner fixed the problem. I have a LaCie external, but the internal drive is a NEC 3500AG - running 2.0.6. Updating to 2.1A is allowing me to burn. Kinda sad that LaCie does not provide firmware updates. I also had to remove the drive from it's case and install internally to get binflash to see the drive.
Also - the link to necflashx is down - I used the command line binflash, found here: http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/
