OK. I'm going to only vent one sentence before I get on with it: Who at Roxio/Sonic thought it was a good idea to take the worst modules from MyDVD Deluxe and EMC 7 and combine them into EMC8? C'mon, you can tell me. I know you're lurking about here somewhere, too modest to take credit.

Three sentences. Oh well. I'll just wait a year and send out an edit. Anyway, I'm more irritated with myself now because I was the moron who decided after things didn't go so well on my desktop, that maybe I should try installing it on my laptop. But here's the twist: two different, albeit similar, disastrous results.

1) Desktop - no matter how much i try to roll back, i can no longer get sonic mydvd to add a file. it just says "could not create thumbnail. make sure you have proper decoder installed." now, just to be clear, i have the same decoders installed on both desktop and laptop. yet the laptop will add files.

2) Laptop - what it won't do is edit style. i hit "edit style" and it crashes the program.

now none of this would be so bad, except that i hate EMC8's dvdbuilder module. that preview while it's transcoding is way irritating and you'll never convince me that that's not what's slowing the #$^@ thing down. i of course can't find a setting to turn off the transcoding preview, either because -- as stated above -- i'm a moron, or that someone at roxio that i mentioned in the first paragraph is.

yes, i'm frustrated. yes, i'm sure that this is at least partly because i did something silly that i can't remember or undo. but, you know what? this isn't the first software program i've ever used. it might be the first one that reduces me to tears though. and the fact that there isn't a huge flashing box on roxio's home page saying "hey, we know people have had problems. call us and we'll waive the tech support fees for the next 30 days" shows me that they don't really care at all that this program is difficult. i've read all the posts from people saying that they didn't have any problems so it isn't roxio's fault. bull. i used roxio 5 & 7 and sonic mydvd 6, all without a single problem. all of a sudden this month, after 10 years of using a computer 40+ hours a week, i forgot how to use it. completely went braindead and screwed everything up. and it's just pure coincidence that EMC8 was there when it happened. be that as it may, if anyone has a real suggestion as to how i can fix this, i'm all ears.

p.s. i'm really not this angry in general, but i've literally been trying to fix this since yesterday afternoon. i may need a nap.
