Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my Mac to OSX 10, it came with Toast 7 titanium, and everytime I try and burn a DVD, whether it be a +r, -r, on Verbatim, all other major brands, it only plays in the Mac. It will not play on any standalone DVD player. Is there something wrong, is there a setting for DVD playback?

How are you burning the DVD's ? If you're using VIDEO_TS folders you should either use the DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS option in the Video window or drag the VIDEO_TS folder into the Data window but you *must* select DVD-ROM (UDF) in the options drawer first.

If you're using ISO, IMG, MDF images then you should go the Copy window and select Image File in the options drawer.

Were using videos created in Media 100i, exporting it as a reference file, not as a video_ts file! We are selecting a Video-DVD, and the setting seems right, it just doesnt play back in stand-alone players!

There .MOV files, tried it with iDVD and it worked perfectly, still dont understand whats wrong with Toast, but were gonna keep using iDVD. I actually like the included themes for iDVD over Toast!

You're probably doing everything right, but not all DVD players will play burnt DVDs.  You may remember when blank CDs first came out, only few CD players would play them.  It's because the reflection on DVD±R's and CD±R's is different than on regular DVD's or CD's.  This problem is being worked out and new DVD players are able to play them.  Now I don't know if you want to pocket out any money on a new DVD player, but if you do, get one that is DVD±R compatible.

I am having similar issues ....

Background:  I have .mov (dv) file from final cut pro that I drag into the Video DVD menu in toast.  I choose a preset menu, put in the disc title, track information, set the 5 minute chapter feature, best compression, and select image for menu.  I then burn a DVD-R (both Fuji and Verbatim 16x, even tried buring at 12x, 4x) all same results.  The dvd will not play in PC, you can see the menu page, but it basically crashes the player (6 month old Dell laptop) - it will play in one of my stand alone DVD players (5 years old player) another test disc wouldn't play in any DVD player at Best Buy.   When it does play, the video crashes about 70 minutes into the 90 minute video, at that point the menu functions won't work and i have to restart the DVD player.

i have even tried auto play.  I tried different .mov files, .mov by reference, on and on.. Still, the DVD either won't play or plays and crashes at some point..

Am I missing something?
Is this a burner issue (SuperDrive on Mac G5 pre-Intel).. plenty of HD space...
Is this a finalizing issue with Toast Titanium...
Is the rest of the world still in the dark ages?

So, I can still try iDVD or DVDSP but thought 'gee, a Roxio product would probably be more compatible with PC users and standalone DVD players!'

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with your SuperDrive. I seem to recall a similar issue being raised a few months ago and the problem was solved by getting another DVD burner. You also might check if Apple has a firmware update available for your drive and using a laser cleaning disc.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

This has been a problem in the past.  I just installed a new Pioneer 111D.  I'm still experiencing the same problem I had before with my previous burner.  DVD's won't play back or are stuttering causing the video and audio to play out of sync.  It all happened after I upgraded to the latest 7.1.2 version of Toast.  I have used Toast faithfully for years.  I'm currently running on a G5 Dual 2Ghz.

When I burn on Toast 6 on my older G4 they burn much slower but work just fine.  As much as I hate to say it, I think Roxio and Toast missed something when building the latest upgrade.  I'm no expert, but the trouble all started after installing the upgrade.
