I recently created what I hoped would be the new master for a production. I used an ISO file and got a clean burn.
When I try to copy it using disc copy it tells me the the content is too large and wants to compress it. The file size is 3.7 GB and is indicated as such on the disc copy window.
I tried to copy it using another software (1 Click DVD) which has never failed to copy a DVD before and it tells me that there is a "bogus date" on the disk and won't copy it either.
The disc plays ok on my computer and on one of  the two players that I own. I took to several strores that sell DVD players and it failed on 8 players and worked on only one (A sony).
I burned three more and they all exhibit the same results.
I am using Verbatim media.
Any Ideas on what I can do to determine the problem?
Thanks,
glenn webster

Run the disc through a disc quality check. DVDInfoPro. Check the PI, PI error test two.

I had already done that before posting the question. I did a full surface check for  read errors (none) and the PI/PO check returned a confidence level of 96.7%.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure what to try next.

This is probably a dumb question, but........ why don't you just use the .iso file and Disk Copier to make mulitple copies?     That's the easy way and one of the reasons for making an .iso file.

It's possible that you just got a bad burn.  You could try slowing down the burn rate and see if that helps for multiple copies.

I agree.  Make the ISO, keep it in a safe place and use that as the master rather than the disk itself.

That would of been my suggestion ML & sisterscape.

There seems to be another problem, that is why I asked the questions above. Re-burning the same ISO to the same media, I would think would yield the same results.

You'll get no argument from me..... The poster probably needs to check the website of the DVD burner manufacturer and see what type/ brand of DVD is recommended to use in that burner.

I just couldn't figure out why he was trying to copy the DVD itself rather than burning more copies with the .iso file.
glenn,

I am replying here and hoping that everyone who responded will see it .
I am, as always, grateful and pleasantly surprised at the generosity of all people on this forum. Thank You.

I tried to copy the disk in the hope that I would get an indication of what might be wrong. Disc copy  told me it was too large and should be compressed.  File size was less than 4 GB.
1Click DVD said file size was OK but it contained a Bogus Date and couldn't be copied. No help there either.

I tried burning it three times because in a former life I was an engineer and that's what engineers do. Repeat things over and over, each time hoping fo a different result.
I can't give you the information that you asked for (above). The last time I saw the disc was as I frisbeed it off the trail on my morning hike today.
The problem is resloved but, I guess not solved. I reinstalled EMC 7.5 and burned a  new disc froom the ISO file.  Didn't get quite the good results on  the PI/PO check (66%) but it works fine on the five DVD players I have tried it on.
Wahoo :)

Hi,
My apologies to those whom I offended with my disposal of the disc.
This morning I stopped on the way to the trailhead and scraped up a long dead cat from the road and took it with me . When I got to where I thought I had I frisbeed the disc, I frisbeed the flattened cat  (used to call these "sail cats" when I was a kid") and watched carefully where it went. Went down and looked all over - but no disc. I did drag a rusty bicycle frame back up to my truck and will take it to the landfill Tuesday morning. I hope that, on balance, my removing the bike and rescuing the cat from continued runovers will even out my Karma and earn my forgiveness.

I'm not sure if the following data is what you asked for. It's an earlier version of the DVD file in question.

:)   Now that's funny.

I think the rusty bicyle frame more than makes up for the disk.

Some critter probably picked up the pretty shiny object and added it to it's collection of man-made memoriabilia.

Either that or someone is trying to figure out how to make it play on their DVD player. :D

Karma and earn my forgiveness.

I'm not sure if the following data is what you asked for

The bike should go to the iron pile and I thank you.

Your firmware seems out of date when I checked the Lite-On site. Yours Burner: Lite-On LDW-851S -   FW Rev. GSOC.
I saw a GSOP, follow there updating instructions!
http://forum.rpc1.or...p;manufactor=17

Your Verbatim MCC 03RG20 16X -R media don't look right!
It only shows a Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
mine show this below, look at my (Available Write Descriptor's) Same disc!
Update the firmware and see if a blank disc in DVDINFPro shows the same. You could try a 2x burn. I think the disc's are junk. Get some new disc's and do a check in DVDInfoPro and see if they look more like my info before you burn one.

That story is pretty funny!  However, it's not so much about offense and forgiveness as it is about learning to act with conscience and respect when interacting with the natural world we all share.  Please, think twice next time you have a similar impusle . . .  Enough lecturing!  I really do appreciate your attempt to rectify the situation.

Glenn,
The Available Write Descriptors, still don't look right for the 16X -R Verbatim disc. Borrow a couple of 16X disc's if you can and they should show more Available Write Descriptors like my disc did!
