still getting INVALID INSTALLATION msg...

When I try to open certain features from the main EMC 8 screen I get an error message that say I have an invalid installation.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the update several times and still no change.
Sometimes I get an error that says "unable to find certificate file" Does that have anything to do with it?
HELP!
I was told by FRENCHTOASTWITHJAM to
Give this a shot:
1. Fix registry permissions
a. Click on "Start" choose "Run", then type "regedit" and click "OK".
b. In the Registry Editor, click on the "+" next to "HKEY_Local_Machine".
c. Now click on the "+" next to "Software".
d. Right-click on the key (folder) called "Roxio" and choose "Permissions".
e. Make sure that "Administrators" and "System" have checkmarks for "Full Control" - "Allow".( This does not apply in win2000!)
2.
f. If you had to add those checkmarks, click on "Apply".
g. Click on "Advanced".
h. Put a checkmark in "Replace permission entries on all child objects with the entries shown here that apply to child objects".
i. Click "OK".
j. Click "OK" again.
k. Now close the Registry Editor
I did and still no change; I wrote back and never heard anything back...
I sent emails to CUSTOMER SUPPORT and never heard anything back...
Is there anyone that can help me get this to work?
I bought EMC8 from COMPUSA; I also downloaded and installed the update that was available from ROXIO's web site.
Here's what I have on my system:
I am running XP service pack2 with all the latest updates on a Systemax Venture PC with a Pentium 4 2.52 ghz CPU with 1.99 mb of RAM

Make sure that anti-virus software is off, as it can interfere with the installation (Prevents certain files from being placed in directories.)
Make sure that the permissions thing that frenchtoastwithjam told you is accurate -- If you want to be 100% sure that permissions are granted, create a new user account, and give it admin privelages.

one says "The cerificfate file is missing or corrupted. Please re-install it"
and another that says:
"Microsoft visual C++ Runtime Library" across the top
and
"Program: ...es\Common Files\Roxio Shared\SharedCOM8\RoxWatchTray.exe
"This applicatio has asked the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
Any ideas what to do now?

To stop the RoxWatchTray one, either do a Ctrl+Alt+Del, and shut it down in the processes tab, or go to Start->Run. type in MsConfig, Startup tab, and then de-select the RoxWatchTray one. RoxWatchTray (I believe) relates to media manager, and it constantly looks around your computer for files to add to media manager.
Did you try the reinstall? Be sure to remove all instances of the program -- Do an Add/Remove, then remove it from the registry, the roxio/sonic shared folders, the roxio/sonic folders in Program files, etc... I believe theres a knowledgebase article on this complete removal...
Edit: It would appear the knowledgebase is currently down, but I believe there are similar instructions somewhere on this forum. Where, is a good question

Hmm... thats odd... were there any instances of the program running at the time? (This includes stuff like RoxWatchTray or Drag-to-Disc.) Try starting up in diagnostic mode and see if you can delete it then...

The point of creating a new user account (and making it as an admin) is to ensure that you have all permissions active. It is possible that, even for an admin, the permissions can get over-written, causing you not to have certain permissions. When you create a new user account, install the software, then delete this account, you make sure that the permissions are correct.
However, because of the registry problem, i'd say theres bigger issues here... I'll have to leave it up to someone else to take it from here...

Here are some of the things I did, sorted by what I think is most relevant.
I removed all Sonic and Roxio programs from the system. I removed all the Registry Keys from My Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID that included the words ROXIO or SONIC. In particular I saw one called 'Dest.Cert' or 'Rest.Cert' (I think it said certificate manager?), I have been unable to locate it since. There are hundreds of entries for Roxio in Class IDs and this may take a few hours. I removed the CLSID for anything with a path of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared. I removed just about everything else in the registry referring Roxio or Sonic.
I removed the ROXIO and SONIC directories from C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data (Application Data is a hidden directory).
Previously I tried registering all the DLLs in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared. I created a new shortcut on the desktop for C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regsvr32.exe and dragged and dropped all the files in all the sub-directories with the .dll extension (you can only do so many at one time).
I had previously set the compatibility mode for Creator to Windows 95, I got a Could Not Install API error, I unchecked that.

V6 was the last program by Roxio that ran on Win9x/NT. All version since then require XP/W2K (SP4) or better to work. Thus compatibility mode from V7 forward will not work.
