I was rolling along for months with no problems. This year, in order to enjoy EMC8, I updated my hard drive and Video card. (System specs in signature)
Now, and all of a sudden, I am crashing with the Windows Error Message "Windows encounterd a problem" and after reporting to Microsoft, it closes.
Sometimes it will happen (Videowave - New project) when I insert the first color panel. Lastnight, it let me insert one color panel, and a MPG file. It played perfectly in preview mode. I tried to insert a color panel after the MPG pane and it crashed.
I opened an older project and when directly to burn. It burnt fine and had no problems. I opened that same project and tried to insert a color panel and it crashed.
Sometimes, just browsing for the file to insert, it crashes. And it does this before I have even selected a file. It seems only to crash when browsing or inserting a picture or a video.
I have not done anything to the system except perhaps an windows update (I can't remember when I last did the update but I do update when suggested). But, before I make things worse, I was hoping for some help from the gurus.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ron

It's hard to say what is causing your problem but one thing to do which certainly can't hurt is to defrag your hard drive(s). Systems work better with large files when they are defragged.

Although it would be odd, there may be some sort of strange issue with your new video card. I'm not saying that its a bad videocard, because it isnt, but sometimes EMC just has strange issues with specific cards. Just as a test, try turning off Hardware rendering in both MyDVD and VideoWave. This can be done by going to Tools -> Options and selecting "Software" under "Render using:"
Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your new card if you haven't done so already. You can get them from www.nvidia.com
If the 90 series drivers don't help, try the high 80 series.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I will try BOTH suggestion. I definitely had the latest drivers for the video card but, will see if there is something out there newer. I have not defragged since I installed the new hard drive so that will not hurt and maybe that will be the cure.
Someone at work also suggested that I try to "REPAIR" the EMC8 in Add/Remove programs.
I'll try one item at a time and see what happens. I'll let you know.
thanks again,
ron

Well, no good. I did find a couple of very large .avi files on the system that I thought MIGHT be the problem. I found them during the defrag. So. I deleted them since I really didn't need them. Defragged again and tried Videowave. It crashed.
I down loaded the latest NVIDIA drivers (to my surprise the drivers from Mar of 2006 were in fact updated). Again, no luck.... Videowave crashes.
I then tried to "repair" in the ADD/REMOVE programs. Still no luck.
No other program on the PC gives me a problem including Adobe Photoshop Elements/Premeir Elements.
Any ideas? My next "guess" is to uninstall and reinstall EMC8 Deluxe. If I thought EMC9 cured these kinds of problems, then I'd buy it in a second!
I really like EMC8 but it is truly been buggy for me.
Does anyone have another suggestion?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
