I purchased EMC 8 Suite in order upgrade from the MyDVD Plus v7 that came with my Dell Computer ... or what I thought would be an upgrade.  In using MyDVD plus I was able to caputure recorded tv shows from my Media Center with the click of one button, and then edit and create DVD's from there.  I purchased EMC8 with the hopes of having access to more editing capabilities and hopefully upgrade from some of the nuances from Plus v7.

My question/problem is that I am unable to capture recorded tv shows with this new and expensive sofware.  When I load up MyDVD (EMC 8) and attempt to capture video I get a choice from a pull down menu of two identical options: ANGEL MPEG Device.  When I selct either one I get an error message: Operation 'Build' on CaptureManager failed[i].  When I select Details I get: Failed to Build Preview Graph.  Then all of my fileds in the media import screen are greyed out!  I am a complete Newbie to this whole POST thing, but I am in need of some help!  PLEASE!  SOMEBODY, ANYBODY HELP ME!

Thanks!  :)

You would do much better using the application that came with your system to capture tv.  With EMC8, you should be able to take the drv-ms file created with Media Center TV and import that into MyDVD or Videowave to work with.  Many of the capture cards out don't work well with EMC.

Operation 'Build' on CaptureManager failed

On Friday, August 25 I received a new Dell XPS computer.  It came with DVD LE installed and did a great job of capturing Video from the build-in TV tuner card.  I could easily select “Burn” and within a short amount of time had a completed DVD!!!

Because of the limits of DVD LE I upgraded to EMC8 Suite.  Now I can’t capture from the tuner card anymore.
I don’t want to import the files from Media Center TV because you have to wait for them to transcode in almost real-time.

What I would like is the software product to function correctly.  It worked in DVD LE so I expect it to work in EMC8.  It’s half the reason I spent the money for the upgrade software.

Isn't MyDVD LE an OEM version?  If so, it's made to work with the hardware on your system and may do a better job working with your tuner than EMC8 will. How were you capturing from the card before, with MyDVD LE or with other preinstsalled tuner software? I'm not familiar with what comes with the new XPS systems.

Hey Gumby, I miss seeing you on SNL!  :)
