Step 1: Loaded EMC 9 along with EMC 8 -- EMC 9 Crash!
Step2: Removed EMC 9 and EMC 8 - Reinstalled EMC 9 - It Crashed.
Step 3: Checked Registry - 400+ Errors all related to EMC 8.
Step 4: Seems like NONE of the Roxio Software is working...
Step 5: Removed EMC 9 then removed Roxio Program Folder and Roxio Folder in Common.
Step 6: Reloaded EMC 9 - Same result. CRASH!!!
Any suggestions??

I think everyone is learning on this. A couple of questions to get started. Of course your computer specs and operating system (Service Pack?). Did V8 work OK for you before the install of V9? When you installed V9 did you allow the deletions of the programs it asked to delete? Did you have your anti-virus turned off during the install? Can you get your computer started and do a Windows repair/install? I have V8 and V9 loaded on my computer and they play together mostly pretty well. I still get a message about wanting V8 to load a audio function and I have to be very quick about canceling or it gets me into a loop.

Try Uninstalling 8 and 9 and then do the follow:
1. Running the windows clean up utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;290301
2. run -> regedit -> hit F3 and search Roxio and delete every single entry you find in there
3. same thing, but search for sonic
4. hunt down the folders in your system by going to windows search - Roxio
5. same thing but with sonic
6. install 9 by itself

V8 worked just fine! - V9 never really asked anything, just installed. anti-virus ON but Roxio allowed access in internet. Computer working fine - most of the registry errors seem to reference EMC 8 or 9(?) trashed entries. Repair/install option open but only as last resort. (about 150GB of software & data). Have not tried removing 9 and reloading with anti-virus OFF, but I try it this afternoon. The LAST thing I want to do is dig this hole EMC 9 dug any deeper.

this a a good mentality to have with software, as no matter how good the developers are , they can never make every driver or other software play nicely togeather...
i was in the same boat as the rest of you one EMC8 playing nicely with 9, in my case it didn't, but i had a system ready image as a backup, and after i cloned it back , and installed EMC9, iv had very little issues.
also note in most cases developers of programs cannot for-see any malus code or DLL's or drivers that companies may have made in there drivers for that computer, and these drivers do change from Dell to HP or to even raw original Intel stuff,
so in saying all this, there will be a reason for your issue, and not taking any blame away from a product, there may be the need to get back to basics to find out why you are having these issues with EMC9,
and as we all here are not mind readers we cannot know how much PC skill you have to do these tests or fault finding skills you have.
but if you can do it.
1. start clean (XP SP2 install)
2. image the clean install
3. install drivers
4. image this to (if you have space)
5. install EMC9 and reboot and test.
then if it does work , image this build , and delete the drivers image, and then you can add everything else, and if there is a sudden issue you can find out what causes it.

Regarding your message I respond for myself and others who have installation problems.
You are quoted as noted.
"we all here are not mind readers we cannot know how much PC skill you have to do these tests or fault finding skills you have."
I have worked with computers and installed many programs and wish to point out that this is not shareware but a paid for in advance program developed by a company who appears to expect the user to iron out its softwares bugs!
Although when Roxio is opperational it is a worthwhile purchase I state that NO PERSON SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE INSTALLATION GRIEVE THAT SOME OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED.
I rarely have installation problems with other complex software.
It should not matter too much as to what skills a person has if this Roxio software is available at many retail outlets.
This is not the first time that this Program Developer (Roxio) has released it's software prematurely.
I and I suppose others will make us think twice before we leap to a new version upgrade from this company.
The Tech help that I received was highly questionable. Seemed to me they could care less.
Yes I know that you can install Roxio 9 on a newly installed platform......BUT...we should not have to go that far. I worked backwards using helpfull utilities to no avail. All previously installed programs kept on working. But after cleaning Roxio and Sonic from my system each time prior to a new Roxio install I would continue having the same or very similar problems.
So....I started out fresh and I will find out where the conflict is!
However...a happy camper I am not.
Congrats to those who lucked in with the first time install of Roxio 9.

Please tell me if the following (4) show in color like they did on EMC 7.5? Their names are: Blue Fan,
Butterfly, Maple Leaf, and Red Heart?? 7.5 was the only version that showed these in color!!
And where did you buy the 9.0 when it's not even released yet?? Where?

I suggest you need to change the text to read "YOUR EMC9 Crashes because your computer just might not be set up correctly to run EMC 9"
There are many so far including myself that have installed EMC 9 and have not had any problems. I have used quite a few of the available programs and so far they all work great. There are so many different make ups that individuals have on their computers (different hardware, software, drives with or without updated drivers, and on and on) so it doesn't seem odd to me for some to have problems with their installation.
Once in a while you will see a Roxio Moderator replying to one of the posts on these forums, but basically we are all users just like you that have dedicated our time to try and help others get up and running right with some of the problems they are having. (I think Neil has already said that but I would like to say it again). Give us some descriptive information about your particular problem and some spec's regarding your computer set up and maybe, someone on the forum just might be able to help you.
Cheers

So I tried to "return" EMC9 at the Roxio website. After filling everything in, lo and behold, when I pressed submit, I received an error message saying there was a problem with the website and my request could not be processed. And there is no phone number provided for customer service.
So I get a non-working version of a program and no way to return it. I was also silly enough to buy the extended download (since it kept saying I had used up my download limit when I was initially downloading) and, when that still wouldn't work, I ordered the disc. I guess you can fool some of us all the time. Oh, well.

Other then being very frustrated with a software developer, I think that was the most intent of this message. I certainly did not tell you as per your quote;
" 1. i dont know were you think i was say that all users are putz and are silly? and tecnicly dumb??
2. on the mind readers comment, it did follow on with a sugestion ,not a slap in the face??
3. i dont work for roxio , im a user like you so take a chill pill.
4. i did not called any roxio or other apps shareware, it was just a refurence to users adding the software they prefure and use on there computers."
I am not pissed but feel great sorrow for those that are going through hell and back.
Just to install Roxio 9 should be reasonably simple with minor exceptions.
That then is the jest of it all. The finger I point is at Roxio/Sonic for lack of seriously helping people with good solid suggestions, and at myself for having been so faithful to purchasing their products forever.
In Canada we say all is cool have a good Canadian beer!

Oh, well.

I kept having problems when I tried starting EMC9 the first time. I finally found that my problem was that I had Internet Explorer 7 beta installed. I uninstalled it, which reverted back to version 6. I was able to open EMC9 and go thru the registration process that comes up the first time you use the new EMC9, then every thing worked fine. I even reinstalled IE7 beta and everything still works. Seems it just had to go through the registration process the first time.
