With reference to problems relating to EMC 9 and IE 7, I wonder if this is because the Roxio pages that one connects to when attempting registration or activation don't recognise the IE 7 user agent string? That is a known issue with some sites/pages that check the browser version and are coded to only accept specific versions (as opposed to 'version x or later').

Has anyone tried with IE 7 fixed to use the IE 6 user agent string?

http://www.fiddlerto.../useragent.aspx

using that makes the site being accessed think you're using IE 6 and has resolved issues on some sites that could not be accessed or caused other problems with IE 7 but work with IE 6. The fix is applicable to any version of IE 7. The same site offers a file to reverse the change, or one can use the tool MS has issued (also linked to on the fiddlertools page).

I have not yet purchased EMC 9 but would like to find out whether this might avoid the need to uninstall IE 7 to use EMC 9.

I'm someone who had a problem with IE7 and EMC9 which was corrected when reverting back to IE6.  As IE is still a beta, it's still possible there will be changes made to it that will allow it to work correctly with EMC9 and other programs.
I've not tried anything else other than uninstalling IE7 as I rarely use IE except for some online banking that doesn't work well with Firefox.  I was not aware of fiddlertool either but don't feel adventurous enough to reinstall IE7 and try it out.
Thanks for the info on the tool.  What you suggest might be the culprit sounds reasonable to me. I simply just don't know enough about it to verify it.

Ok Guys, I GIVE-UP - After the removal of EMC8 - Install of EMC9 all I ever got was a program that CRASHES and 405 Registry ERRORS that weren't there when I started this. I am not a happy camper.

I've, at least for the moment removed all ROXIO and SONIC Software and will not attempt this again until TWO things happen.

   1)   Roxio releases a version that will load and then RUN, without me screwing around with Microsoft Stuff.

   2)  I clean out my Registry - Reloading is not an option at this time. I just recovered from a Hard Drive  Crash which took me some 40 Hours to reload. I also don't stick bamboo under my own fingernails.

I'll keep you posted

Tom, I'm not sure what you did or didn't do.  Did you have IE7 installed and if so, did you remove it?  When you say "without me screwing around with Microsoft Stuff", do you mean IE7?  It is a beta and I was foolish enough to trust it and it caused me days of misery with installing, uninstalling, reg cleans etc.  No browser is worth that especially when I use Firefox 99% of the time.  When IE7 is ready, I'm sure Roxio/MS will have it worked out.

Also, the installer that we use, you guessed it, is the Microsoft installer.  Just by installing it you are "screwing around with Microsoft Stuff".

I never had EMC 8 installed on my system and when I installed EMC 9 I get nothing but crashes.  I uninstalled and reinstalled and still get nothing but crashes.  I uninstalled and installed on another computer (which also never had EMC 8 installed) and it too does nothing but crash.  There is obviously a problem with EMC 9 as a number of other people are having the same problem.  To top it off, Roxio has yet to reply to multiple emails sent to tech support.  If I can't even load EMC 9 it is useless to me and a waste of my money.  How can I get a refund for this POS product?

Before purchasing, did you make sure your computer meets or exceeds minimum requirements?  Windows XP SP2, the latest DirectX (aug2006), make sure ALL of your hardware drivers are updated especially video card and audio card.  Are you using any type of skinning software like Windows Blinds? When users are having major problems, it is usually something on the computer.

This worked for me, and I can now start EMC9 and use it. However when I go to 'Help -> Register Now' I get the same error. Everything else seems to work fine.

I share your sentiments about this product & hate the way sonic has *deleted*.But don't condem it yet!
It's about the best you can find around,(nero is just as bad if not worse)! The designers have concentrated so hard on incorperating new features that they completely have forgotten core applications upgrades!  I never downloaded the upgrade because i believed the actual disks would provide better installs! I'm waiting on my disks in the mail now, but if i have any troubles installing & using the software i'll scrap it & revert back to the best version roxio has put out which is 7.5!  I bought 8.0 deluxe but i'm highly disatisfied with it's transitions part of the videowave.  The only reason that i've bought 9.0 is because they say it's faster than earlier versions!.....And if anyone here is familiar with the following terms, please contact me with info as to how 9.0 shows them: Simple Reveals.....Theme Reveals.....Page Turns....Smpte Wipes???
Please contact with info????

Always something wrong with the computer!!  You always profess that!  Cannot something be flawed with the software?? Why was 9.0 put out so shortly after (2) versions of the 8.0 software??
These people have top of the line machines & surely over 2 million users cant be wrong!
Ck system requirements, upgrade video & sound cards??  All that is jibberish & passification!
And where did you get that info that windows xp had over 3,000 flaws in it when they released it??
I have contradictory documents to that effect.........

I have about 255 transitions.  How many do you have?  The categories in V9 VideoWave are: Reveals, Pushes and Slides, Page Turns, 3D, Particles, and Distort. That is if you have a video card/chip that will handle them all. -- about 150 if you don't.  I can do a screen shot if you don't believe me.  (Remember that I provide a video of the pan and zoom.) How about answering some questions that are asked of you?

Why won't you post your computer specs especially your video card/chips? I never had 7.5 but did have 7.0 and agree that it was a good program.  If you have a marginal computer like an older laptop, I agree that 7/7.5 is a better product for that machine especially if the person doesn't want or need what the upgrade gives you.  For a machine that is clean and up to date (one that meets the requirements), V8 or V9 are excellent products but there is no compelling reason the go from V8 deluxe to V9 (IMHO)

You seem to say you have all this inside information but you just say it -- where is it- link? (remember that update schedule for - what 22 days).  Now stop ranting and ask or answer questions.  You seem to know V7/7.5 why don't you help out there rather than not helping here.

How about answering some questions that are asked of you? I have two of them underlined above.  The third is rhetorical.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Works also for me using VISTA RC1. Now all components I tested right now (which all crashed before) are running. THX for this "hack".
Update: some components (as stated in the release notes) must be updated (in future) to be fully compatible e.g. video editing does not work and also DVD playback seems to crash. But main parts ISO CD emulator, Creator Classic ... are working for me.

Not one single mention of any troubleshooting.  No comments in reference to IE 7 compatibility. I have to assume you are running IE 7 and at the same time did not read the rest of this thread.

Hey? Your sharp!......... Finally someone that might can help me! I tried to post my system info here but for some reason it wont happen!.....And thanks for the screenshot offer(have u ever tried snagit 8.0?)
First of all u can help me to put my system info here, i seem to be having problems getting that done & it will help both of us if i do??   And my most important question to "YOU" is: since your familiar with most of the transitions!  Let's assume that i have the very latest driver update for my video card?  Does any transitions in EMC 9  show in color & 3-D like they do in reveals of EMC 7.5??
I tried copying & pasting my info here........is there another way to do it??

NO, there are no transitions in  9 that have color.

Quote

Let's assume that i have the very latest driver update for my video card?
Having the latest driver is good, but having a video card that FULLY supports DirectX is what counts if you want/need those transitions.

Videowave 9 has 37 '3D' transitions, 17 page turn transitions, 28 distort transitions which require a video card that FULLY supports DirectX 9.0c. These transitions are only available when render defaults to hardware.

I have had the same problem with EMC 9.0 crashing after the install with memory errors in Windows XP SP-2. I tried all suggestions above to no avail. I have found out that I have upgraded my Microsoft Interent Explorer from version 6.0 to 7 RC1 which was causiing my problems and also a friends with EMC 9 crashing with memory errors evrytime the program is started. EMC 9 would not run when IE 7 RC1 was installed in my system. When I removed IE 7 from my Add remove programs in control panel and Windows XP returned IE 7 back to 6, everyting is now working fine. It looks like EMC 9 is incompatable with Interent Explorer 7 RC1, it must use IE for it's home screen etc... ROXIO, you might want to pin this problem to the top of the page. I hope this helps others...Richard
