I was using EMC7 without any problems before I installed EMC8 Deluxe. After installing EMC8D I can not use any of my optical drives. I keep getting pop up windows telling tme that the drives have blank media in them when they don't and when this happens (which is often) the whole system freezes. No programs will read from them. However they are reconized by the system but the properties tab always shows fully used media.

When installed all components were checked for updates my anti-virus was turned off.

D2D was not installed and I have no other simular programs installed.

I have tried the rxfix.exe program from this forum (it didn't help)

I am about to uninstall it and throw this POS away.

My System

Gateway P-4 2.0 Gig
2 Gig RDRAM PC800
80 Gig Maxtor Hard Drive
250 Gig Maxtor Hard Drive
NVidia GForce 3 256 Video card
Plextor 716a DVD/RW
Sony 500a DVD/RW
Iomega Zip 250 external
Running Windows XP Pro SP2

I have been using adaptec (Roxio) products almost since they started. This has to be the worst product that they have released.

NVidia GForce 3 256 Video card

Is this your correct video card?
I have owned a G3 T500 card years ago it is a very old card and never
offered 256mb ram.

Yes this computer is kind of old. It was built for gamming about 9 or 10 years ago. It was one of the first 2.0 gig processors. the video card is a 64 meg card with an optional daughter board for a total of 256 meg and was purchased that way when the computer was ordered. I am holding out till the new windows is out for a new computer.

All in All I should be able to run EMC8D.

This system has no problems with EMC7 and functioned properly until EMC8D was installed.

I can assure you that there was no 2.0 GB processor available, 9-10 years ago, nor was there one available 5 years ago.

Well I don't know the exact date (I'm trying to find the receipt) but I purchased it before I retired and I have been retired 7 years. All programs that came with it are for windows 95 and 98. MS Office 97 also came on it. I upgraded the operating system to ME and than XP and know I paid over 3,000 dollars for it at the time

I am not here to get into a pissing contest or to blow smoke up someone's butt. I came here for some help but I see this board is just like Roxio's products FOS.

I am just going to remove it and all of Roxio's programs bite the bullet on their cost and load NERO or some other program that will work or I can at least get help to make them work.

Thanks, for making a sick old man's day

Laser770,
A new video card that supports direct X9C might help, and it is in the system requirements
for version 8 video work. You should be able to find one under the price of this software!

Have you tried this fix for missing drives pinned to the top of the install section?

Yes I tried all the mentioned fixes. Yes my video card supports direct x 9 and I have it loaded.

Its finally working. Here is what I did

I did a clean install where after making sure that all Roxio and Sonic products were un-installed. I than ran disk cleanup after which I searched the registry for Roxio and Sonic and deleted everything registered to either product. I than ran defraged the drive. Than I turned off all unnecessary programs including anti virus. And than I installed EMC8D.

Everything now appears to be working ok.

I want to thank all those who offered real help

High fives to you for getting it working.  And, for coming back and posting your solution.
