I have compiled a series of MPEG files into a DVD using ECM 9 video compilation. When I burned it to disc, I asked it to make me 5 copies. After the first copy finished and ejected, the video compilation program crashed with a "needs to shut down" error message. Each time I tried to do this again, it would print one disc, then crash. The discs play just fine on my computer and my DVD player. Since it takes so long to prepare a compilation and burn it, I used ECM 9 to save an image of the DVD to my hard drive. When I used ECM 9 to burn the image to a blank DVD -R, each time I tried, I received an immediate error and it wouldn't burn it. Then I tried using the Copy feature. I put the DVD into my computers only DVD drive, then started the copy. It read the DVD, ejected the disc and asked me to insert a blank, and then immediately gave an error message when I clicked OK. So I'm back to compiling the videos onto a DVD one at a time. Any suggestions?

Sandy

Unfortunately, repair is not working for me since the repair program is looking for a file named Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.msi which is no longer on my system following completion of the install (probably removed by a sweep of my temporary files.) If I try to run the downloaded installation file again, I do not get the option to repair, only a message that EMC 9 is installed on my system and to reinstall I need to uninstall the current installation first. Oh, well. Maybe I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling again when I get a chance. I think this will probably make it the 10th time I've done this with ECM 9.

Hi Sandy,
Did this drive work proper with the previous burning software?
Is it a OEM came bundled with the PC?
How old is the drive?
I searched this drive at (http://www.videohelp...h=Search&list=) it seems to be a older drive.
I couldn't find any firmware on the Panasonic site.
The link above does post some problems for the drive.
Older drives and OEM have seen there share of problems here!
16X DL drives are cheap now around $30.00. If you decide to upgrade, buy one from a drive maker that offers better firmware support. Pioneer, BenQ, Lite-On, Plextor, and Nec.

Latest update: I was able to use WinZip to unpack the files in the EMC 9 installation download and recreate the MSI file and its supporting files. I ran repair and will let you know if this fixes the problem.

Yes, this is definitely an older drive. I did update the firmware as one of the first things after I had these problems but your suggestion is a good one that it is reasonable to upgrade to a newer (and faster) unit.
