A previous post suggested CD/DVD writers can be damaged by aborting a burn. Well I've had something very close to this occur a couple of times with Jam, Toast and Retrospect. In all cases aborting a write resulted in an application hang requiring a force quit. Sometimes the OS hung too and a reset was required. After the force quit or reset, the drive did not appear in System Profile or any app that burns discs.
Power cycling the computer did NOT restore functionality. But there was still a parially writen disc in the drive!
Restarting the computer and holding the mouse button down will force eject a disc.
After the bad disc is removed from the drive, it works again!
My burner is a Pioneer DVR-109 with Pioneer firmware version 1.58.
