You have several options.  I like to use Creator Classic, but you can also use Music Disc Creator or Sound Editor.

The create audio CD feature was removed from Creator Classic, but one that feature is still there.

Insert audio CD into your drive
Run Creator Classic 8 which usually defaults to DATA disc
in the Select Source, navigate to the CD
Select the songs you want to convert and drag them to the Disc project window.

Since they are 'songs', it will want to convert them first before adding them to the 'data project'.

Select your options and convert.
When finished just close the data disc project without saving.

If you want to make an mp3 cd that will work in your car there's no need to do multiple things.Just go to Music Disc Creator, make an mp3 project, use import from CD/DVD to add tracks and then burn the disc.If you want to save the tracks to your drive first then do as ggrussell says.

Hi,

I've done what you said...converted my songs from my CD's to MP3's...Thank you both for helping on this.  I have a few songs on my hard drive that I need to convert over to MP3's...I've tried but can't figure out how to do this?  Once I burn them to a cd will it convert to mp3 once it's burned?  I have another stupid question....how come I can only get about 30 to 40 songs (mp3) on a CD 74mb...I heard you could get about 100 or so....do I need to get a specific CD for mp3's?  Sorry about all the questions.

                               Thanks again,
                                        Jerry

If they are already on your hard drive just add them to your project when you make your mp3 cd and it will convert them then.As far as how many fit it's all a matter of the rate they were made at.An mp3 disc is essentially a data disc and therefore restricted by space not time. The higher the bitrate the tracks are made at the more space they take up.If you made files at 128k they would use up approximately 1Mb per minute of song (give or take a bit).At that rate you could get about 140 5 minute tracks on a 700Mb cd (probably a few less). If you used 256k rate then you'd get about half as many to fit.The math may not be exact but you get the idea.Given all this I would think you should get more than 30 or 40 to fit unless you you using a 320k rate and then it would still be close.

In V8 and now V9 the audio functions are no longer done by Creator Classic.Use Music Disc Creator.
Open it,choose MP3/WMA disc from the project type. Then choose Add Audio Tracks from Add to Project. An explorer type box will pop up to choose your files from.Highlight the tracks and hit Add.Once you get them all added hit burn. Before you burn you can hit File,Project settings or Just hit Project setting at the top of the window over your added files to set some options.
This will get you an mp3 disc with a playlist that should play in any mp3 compatible player.

Did you try music disc creator?   Sometimes mp3 files have characteristics that EMC doesn't like.  Try putting that piece of music in Sound Editor and then export it as an mp3 -good quality..  That will make it more compatible.  Roxio seems to like 44,000 KHz, 16 bit, 196 kbps.   I'm not sure what it would do at those higher rates you are using.  It should work but I know that lower bit rates (from voice recorders) will give it a problem
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I'm just wondering if I converted them the right way.  I opened V8, then on right it says to convert, I used this to covert over 300 songs to mpe.  Hope this was right?  The songs do play on my computer as mp3's.

Hi,

I did what you said, but for some reason Roxio wouldn't recongize my CD drives in Music Disk creator.  I ahd to use the Jukebox to burn it and that worked.  Then I called Roxio was on the phone over 3 hours and I'm still having major problems with ECD8.  I might try and buy 9, I've spent over 10 hours on this. They said that the disc might be bad.  Not sure what's up.  I do want to thank everyone for helping out.  I've tried all the fixes and nothing helped.

Jerry,to try and straighten this out try going to the Control Panel,Add/Remove and doing a repair of your installation. This may fix the problem if it a corrupted file.
You asked how to make a disc from mp3's already on your hard drive and those were the directions I gave you.If you used the convert cd's app from the home menu then those files should be compatible with the other apps in the suite. The disc you created from the Jukebox app is the same as if you used Music Disc Creator. You would just have more options in MDC.
I've used MDC in both V8 & V9 without problems.This isn't to say that others,including youself,haven't had troubles.

Thanks again for getting back to me.  I've tried that already and all it does is freezes, it won't let me finish.  Roxio want me to go to msconfig and uncheck all my startup items, but if I do that I'll loose my mouse and keyboard and maybe my monitor.  I didn't do that, might have to call them back.  I also downloaded Microsoft windows install cleanup to make sure it was cleaned out, but it wasn't on the list.  They told me to go into the registry to do a cleansweep of ECD8.  Part of the instuctions were to uncheck all the items in startup, that's why I had to stop.  Hoping one way or another to get this fixed, I do want to thank you for your help and if you have any other ideas let me know?
