Hi there,
I downloaded 9 and during install of the first file this is what happens:
- extracts
- validates
- offers language option
- asks for Complete or Custom install (selected Complete)
- starts install
- runs for a while until it aborts wih "error 1335 DATA1.CAB is corrupt. Abort/Rretry/Ignore"
- Rretry gives same error message
- Ignore gives "internal error 2350"
- Abort, well, aborts install
- Ignore and Abort then proceed to a "Finish" screen and then "reboot to complete install"
- after reboot the programs menu shows a "Roxio Easy Media Creator 9" group with only "Data" and underneath onlt "Drag-to-Disc"

I downloaded the files twice again: once on the same machine and once on a different machine. Same results.
I checked the KB and it only shows references to version 6 for error 1335.
I checked with the online assistant and it does not give any useful information.

Any ideas?

Remove IE 7 and go back to IE 6? Several people have had IE 7 which is a pre-release version.
This response will be almost as popular as update you video card/chip drivers.

You sure the *same* file is getting corrupted each time? Are you installing as someone with administrator privileges?

I can offer a WAG. The original corrupted Data1.cab is not getting overwritten by your 2nd or 3rd install files. This shouldn't happen since Data1.cab isn't write-protected, but perhaps you have some kind of file protection software running in the background or it gets temporarily write-protected during the install process.

My WAG solution is to delete everything in this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\
and try again. This is normally a hidden folder so you'll have to check "Show hidden files and folders". If you need directions on how to do this start "Help and Support" and do a search for it.

I just checked again, this folder (which contains Data1.cab):
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\pft7.tmp
IS a Read-only folder. In fact, there's a bunch of Roxio Read-only folders there.

My solution is no longer a WAG, it's been elevated to "This might work."

Lance: The folder is not Read Only! I think you are mistaking the subdued green square in Properties for the solid green checkmark…

The square means that there may be Read Only files/folders in there, but XP did not check all of them.

Still your idea to delete does have merit!

You're right of course.

But still...After I saw there were still files in the Temp directory I tried using Windows Disk Cleanup and CCleaner (another cleanup-like program) to try to clean it out - they didn't seem to delete anything at all. So I went in and manually deleted the files. Normally Cleanup and CCleaner work as I expect.

Is there no question that all files in that folder should be deleted and can't cause any problems? I looked in that folder and there is a lot more then Roxio "stuff" in there. I am always nervous about emptying out temp files not know what should or shouldn't be deleted. :)

Thanks for the suggestion but I have a problem with it: everytime I tried to install I cleared the TEMP folder deleting everything from there, it's what I always do before installing software.
So, the question is" if the install is creating read-only files during the process would it be safe to go behind the scenes when it is working and clear the RO flags?

I don't have IE 7, I am running IE 6.0.2900.
As for the video card/chip drivers why would that affect the installation? I understand if there are problems with running the program, but the install? Am I missing something?

As far as I know the TEMP folder is just that: a temporary storage place. Once the particular process is done (an install, an upgrade, etc) you can safely delete those files. In fact I read in one of those "Push XP to the limit", etc. articles in some magazine some techniques to always clear the TEMP folder when Windows starts.
So, IMHO, it is safe to delete them if you are not running any program (Windows excluded, of course). Worst scenario: they will be created again.

I doubt it. The programmers are going through the extra effort for a reason.

You can extract Data1.cab from the downloaded executable. You can use Winzip for this. Right-clicking on the extracted file and selecting properties shows my Data1.cab file size is:
357,172,578 bytes (size)
357,175,296 bytes (size on disk)
How does yours compare?

Using WinZip you can also open the Data1.cab file, it holds 6,956 files. Looks like it holds some standard content menus, pictures and the like. If you can open Data1.cab with WinZip, perhaps it isn't corrupted after all and we're going down the wrong track.

Using WinZip I extracted all files from the downloaded EXE.

IE shows my DATA1.CAB with 357,172,578 bytes (size) and 357,175,296 bytes (size on disk). Sames as yours.

WinZip shows DATA1.CAB with 6,956 files and 669,246 Kb. Again, same as yours.
Now, I can open it with WinZip but if I try to extract it I get a "File is corrupt" message. Here is part the log from WinZip (the file is too long to post it complete):

So I guess we can conclude DATA1.CAB is corrupt.

Your file size (669,246 Kb) matches what my WinZip reports. WinZip extracts mine without a problem. So yes your Data1.cab is corrupt as you suspected in the very beginning. But you've discovered a quicker way to check the downloaded file for corruption.

Don't know why you got the same error 3 times in a row however. I had to download one of the Linux CDs twice before I got a good download.

Is AV flagging something as suspicious activity and screwing with the extraction process? Is the file at the server corrupted? Is something happening over your network path back to the server?

I don't know what to suggest except a call to Roxio and another download attempt, perhaps using a friend's internet connection with has a different ISP.

Anyone else have any ideas?

OK...Uninstalling IE7 and reverting to 6 may not be popular, but I could only run Xingtone and Sightspeed. Then I uninstalle IE7 (remember...it is not ready for prime time yet) and, WHAAALAAA! EVERYTHING works! No uninstall and reinstall after reverting. It all just started working! EVERYTHING! By the way, IE6 automatically comes back, in case some of you didn't know that. I thought about that when I was restarting my computer...lol).
THANKS bunches!!!
