I'm thinking of buying the EMC 9 upgrade as a download (£44.99 in UK).
I have EMC 8 retail installed and have the CD.

I will not want both EMC 8 and EMC 9 on my PC.

If I first uninstall EMC 8, does the upgrade install have the option to insert the EMC 8 CD as proof of ownership, or do I have to keep EMC 8 installed while installing EMC 9 and then uninstall it afterwards?

I have IE 7 RC1 (which I like) and it won't be too many weeks before IE 7 final comes out. Should I wait until Roxio and MS have solved the apparent incompatibilities, and will the download upgrade version then be updated to be compatible with IE 7?

No you do not need to leave 8 on your system. The download files (2 of them) are a complete install package and will not require 8 in any way.

Most have found that removing all traces of 8 first makes for a cleaner install of 9.

as to IE7, you would need to remove it at this point to insure 9 will work. Since it's still a beta product, it's hard to guess what will happen when it is finally available as a released product. When it is, it will either work at that point because MS has made changes to it that then allow it to work, or Roxio will issue some sort of update for 9 so they will work together. There's no way to predict it until it happens.

Are you saying that the upgrade doesn't check that the purchaser does have a previous version of EMC suite? If so why would anyone buy the more expensive 'new' one?

On the UK site, EMC 9 is offered at £59.99

http://www.roxio.co....e/overview.html

The upgrade is offered at £44.99:

I was asking about the latter. I dare say it's the full EMC 9 version, but I would have thought that the installer would check that there was a previous version..

Yes that is what I am saying. If purchased thru either link, you would get the same files to download or the same discs sent to you. The difference is that you can purchase at the upgrade price because you have a previous version that qualifies for the lower price. Someone who does not have a previous qualifying version would have to pay the higher price.

Thanks Patty. Thought I'd try something new.

Adding it here in case I change again someday.
