There is a serious conflict between the EMC8 component (BackupMyPC) and EMC 9. If I let EMC9 uninstall the previous copy of BackupMyPC (6) and then install version 7.0 then the system will blue screen. If I manually uninstall EMC8 and then install EMC9, then I lose my capability to backup to my Exabyte tape drive or the Iomega Zip drive. There must be an installation conflict in DLLs or ....... Uninstalling EMC9 and going back to EMC8 works and then all is ok with BackupMyPC (6) again. The only difference in the control screens that I can see is that the "backup" tab now include BackupMyPC as an entry. Perhaps it is a shell conflict. In any event, I can't use this new version of EMC until this is corrected and I don't have to spend 4 hours recovering my partition again.

The new version of BUMP does not support older tape drives.  We found that most of these older drives have a far lower capacity then the hard drives in the systems that meet our minimum requirements.  I cant comment on Zip drives since mine broke like 7 years ago, but I wouldnt be surprised if those are no longer supported either.

I have to differ with your reply. The lastest version of BUMP (2006) states that it supports:

Tape Drives:8mm, ADR, AIR, DAT, QIC, Travan

The Exabyte drive is an 8mm SCSI drive. I confirmed this with technical support on the web just now. So, are you saying that BUMP is partially crippled in EMC9? I think that there is a DLL missing. The Readme file for EMC9 clearly shows that the EXABYTE drives ARE supported.

Here is the information from the EMC9 Readme file:

Backup MyPC supported recorders

Backup MyPC supports many models of recorders; however, if a recorder model has not passed testing requirements, it will not be supported. To find out if your recorder is supported, click here.

Vendor Common Model Inquiry String Media Types Interface OS Support
EXABYTE Mammoth 8900 8mm SCSI Windows XP

I will look into it, but my initial guess is that this information is wrong. Give me a little time to get this worked out though.

OK, Thanks. In the meantime, I uninstalled EMC8 totally and then installed BackupMyPC Deluxe 6.0. Once this successfully installed, I then installed EMC9 and did NOT install BackupMYPC when asked. The remainder of the suite was installed successfully!

As I said, BUMP 7.0 supports EXABYTE SCSI 8mm tape drives. The newest versions have a capacity of 320GB/tape so I'm not certain why you earlier stated that tape drives have not kept up with the capacities of HDD's. I can backup 24gb in less than 1 1/2 hours to tape. Have you tried to do that with DVD burners? That would take about 6 discs and more than 120 minutes of burning not counting the time wasted of mounting and dismounting discs and spanning.

Anyway, thanks for investigating.

Actually that link in the readme appears to go to the wrong index (the list is for BUMP 6).  We are currently looking into this issue.
