I have never seen a DVD player that will play .avi files, but I wouldn't mind having one. What make and model do you have?

Wow, that's more than I've read about! I read an article about a month before Christmas stating that the shelves are full of these players and they can't get rid of them so they were going to reduce the prices. Their thoughts were that the 'regular' dvd buyers know nothing of divx and avi files and only want to be able to play or record dvd's and that a push in a different advertising direction would be helpful.

Sorry if I sound jealous.

I find i use more 700 meg CD's for my family movies and saves on the DVDR blanks... as the DL DVD blanks here are off the scale, $25 bucks per Unit.
I had a mate who imports Jap cars from there and he got it for me trade...
It was about $300 NZ Dollars after conversion, but it works well, although it has the odd issue with some of the newer codex's out there so you have to be carefull with what you make...

First go to Video Compilations and click add movies. You can add as many as your disc will take. Then in the right hand column go to options and click 'Create a Main Menu' and choose your other settings.
Whilst this will create a menu, it doesn't mean that the menu will definitely be recognised by your DivX Player. If it isn't it doesn't mean that it wont play, it will just play the movies in the order that you copied them

Thanks for reminding me....I keep forgetting about this feature but it's most likely because I rarely use divx.

Hi, Steve
I’ve tried this option, but my results were disappointed.
It took 8 hr to compile 4,4G (four avi files) to DVD, and at the end I’ve got a DVD without menu, but with folder in the root called VIDEO_TS, which in turn holds bunch of *.bup, *.ifo and *.vob files instead of original *.avi. Without menu – means I could not see menu on any DIVX player or in any PC onscreen player.

Boris

EMC8 only creates DVDs that adhere to the DVD standards so the burned disc will play on ALL machines.

It makes a sense.
Then what kind of projects could be compiled to DVD and have a usable menu while playing back on the regular DVD player?

Boris,
The issue here is that your files were already avi. files. The fact that you have a Video TS folder now is because you have turned it back into DVD format. Now that they have been turned back into DVD files, reload the DVD Files again through Video Compilations and try again.
The software automatically sets itself to DVD as the output file if the input files are .avi. ? You will have the option if they are DVD files. It appears that there is no option to have avi files transferred to DVD as avi files with menu because the software automatically changes the avi file to a DVD file. If you are ok with this then just use MyDVD to do the Menu.
If not then you have two alternatives
1) Now that you have DVD files, go back and do it again, but make sure that output is set to DivX .
2) Save the avi files as a data disc. You won't get the menu, but any DVD player allows you to press 'next', which will transfer you to that video. You can do this from the original avi files without the hassle that you have had.
The time that this took to do would have been because of the decompression from the smaller avi file to DVD file.
PS Keep in mind that any early model DivX players do not recognise menus.
Good Luck,
Steve M

My player lists all the files on the DVD, as I transfered them. Just like a directory on my computer. I can scroll up and down and select any one to play, but I was lookuing for something a little more graphic.
What you suggested did't work as it wanted to convert the .avi files

You are correct that if it is already an avi file, then Roxio decompresses it to a DVD Format.
Unfortunately I don't think that you have another alternative for the menu when using this option.
It would be a good suggestion to Roxio to:
1) allow existing .avi files to be put onto a disc with menu whilst retaining .avi format (In much the same way that you can make a music DVD with Interactive Menus) and
2) allow tailoring of the menu inside of Disc Copier

Steve
