I have been struggling to burn a simple movie file. My Mac iBook G4 does not have an internal DVD burner, so I purchased a Plextor PX 740A external burner. I dowloaded PatchBurn as recommended by several Mac users to allow my Mac to communicate with the drive. It did allow it to recognize it, but was never able to burn a disc directly from iMovie or iDVD. I was instructed by the service rep at Plextor to use a 3rd party software like Toast. So I purchased Toast Titanium 7. Now, I can burn the disc, but it only plays back the audio, the screen is black. The files I'm trying to burn are .mov files created in iMovie. The files play correctly when mounted, but are not burning correctly as described above. Is there something else I need to do to get my iMovie files to burn correctly when using Toast? And is there a way to burn files made in iDVD in Toast? I would like the option of using iDVDs menu options and styles. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm a fairly new Mac user and brand new to burning DVDs... :)

Many thanks in advance,
Danielle

First, make sure you are running the latest verison of Toast (7.1). Then try burning to a image file (from the file menu) before going directly to the disc. Test the image file for playback once it has been created.

I downloaded the 7.1 update as you suggested, but when I try to add the saved .img file to Toast, I get the following message:

"file.img" is an unsupported format and can not be imported

And I was able to mount the file and it played back just fine...

Any suggestions???

Image files are burned using the Toast Copy window.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I tried saving the .mov file as an image from the Toast file menu and get the same message when trying to add the resulting image file to the Toast window:

"file.toast" is in an unsupported format and cannot be imported

Still stumped... :)

In the Finder, try double clicking on the .toast file. That should set up Toast for burning the image file to disc. There is no "importing" of .toast files - they are selected using the Image File setting in the Copy window - so I'm very puzzled why you get this.

Thank you - it worked! Months of frustration and wasted discs have come to an end. Thank you, thank you!

Now, if only Roxio would make the DVD menu features nicer for Mac users, as they apparently do for PC users.

Danielle :)
