Hi,

I bought a LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S in an external Firewire enclosure connected to my 17 Alluminium Powerbook G4 running Mac OS 10.4.7 with 1Gb memory. I have been having 70% verify errors burning HP Grade A DVD-R disks. Bought a 50 pcs Cake box and only sucessfully burned 15 pieces with verified sucessful and 24 pieces with verified erors. The Lite-On tech ask me to fit the drive inside a G4 but still get the same errors. Is it the drive is bad, the media are bad or Toast does not fully support the drive?

I have get down to reformated the internal hard drive and reinstall mac OS 10.4.7 and toast but still having the same problem. Also does the DVD burner connected after another firewire hard disk matters?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

What kind of content are you trying to burn? If anything changes in a file or folder between the time the disc is burned and verified, you'll get a verification error. So if you are burning content that is within any of the OS libraries some background activity could cause a file to change, such as its modification date. If a folder is opened and closed in the Finder it also can cause a verification error even though nothing is wrong with the original files.

Presuming, though, that your verification error means that something isn't written properly to the disc then I would test with a different brand of media and to burn at a less-than-"best" speed.

There can be odd Firewire issues with drives due to OS problems. Also, Toast doesn't like having some Firewire video capture devices connected. But lots of people (including myself) use Firewire DVD drives while their Macs are also connected to Firewire hard drives.

I presume you've checked with Lite-On that you have their latest firmware.

Search this forum for the word verfication and you'll find other posts regarding these problems. Pay attention to any posts from freshburn as he has the most experience with the inner workings of Toast.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
